New Droid X spontaneously rebooting

My new Droid X is spontaneously rebooting. Others have posted with similar problems in this forum, however tech support still states they know nothing about the issue. I have performed factory reset several times. The last time I performed the reset without gmail backup so that none of my downloaded apps were reinstalled, and all settings remained as factory default. The factory default makes that "DROID" sound every time the phone boots up, and WOW! Now I realize just how frequently this is happening! Apx.15 times just this morning!!!! I feer that many others may have this problem and not even know it until it happens in the middle of a call (which it has for me). So... in summary, it's not a rogue application, it's not the level of charge in the battery, it's not the SD card (happens with it removed). Anyway, tech support has authorized a new replacement for me, which I will pick up today. But is there anything I can do to ensure that THIS PHONE gets into the hands of an engineer at Motorola that is actually working on this problem? I want to help.

Install a battery app and check your voltages. Chances are your battery is shot and that is the problem you are having. Just to give you an idea, my battery has been off the charger for 5 hours and shows 4.107v

I had the same problem with mine. Exchanged it after a week. The guy at the store said he heard of only one other person with this problem, but I read online of others having this problem and apparently Motorola is aware of the issue. I still don't know if the problem was the phone itself, or the charger, or if it was something I did. Since getting my replacement phone, I've had no reboots (knock wood). I'm more cautious about adding apps and I'm using only the charger that was included in the box-plugged into the wall, not usb. Battery life has increased significantly.

The guy at the store also said that maybe in the rush to meet the demand for the Droid X, Motorola may have let their QC process slip. I believe that Motorola is indeed aware of the random reboot issue and will be addressing this on every phone that is returned.

Interesting. I installed batterywatch and the phone is freshly removed from the charger. It reads:

Battery Level: 100%

Battery Voltage: 3971mv (is this a little low for a fresh charge?)

Battery Temperature: 33c

I will check the levels again as soon as the phone starts rebooting.

Never mind, already rebooted once as I'm typing here.

Now the readings are:

Battery Level: 90%

Battery Voltage: 3877mV

Battery Temperature: 32c

Rebooting again...

Put back on the charger:

Battery Level: 90%

Battery Voltage: 4009mv (charging)

How bad is 3877mV?

I just looked at mine -- it is also at 90% and it shows 4081mv (discharging) ... That value of corse will continue to go down as it discharges more. But I don't think you should be concerned so much about that value - as long as the phone doesn't get too 'low' in charge, it SHOULD continue to function ... (I've had mine down to like 20%). It really seems like you have a faulty phone that needs to be replaced though ... Mine NEVER reboots itself. It's nearly 3 months old. Good luck.

FYI, for anyone reading this who does not know, I just checked and this is supposed to be a 3.7 volt battery, so I don't think my phone should be crashing at readings over 3.7 volts. Then again, my phone has not crashed while on the charger this morning, only while under battery power. Plus, who knows, maybe the battery is not supplying enough current, which isn't reported by the battery application.

My wife's droid (purchased at the same time) is running at the same voltages and has never rebooted. I will take them up on their offer for a new replacement from the Verizon store. Thanks everyone.
