What can I do when "not connected"

Fairly new Droid X user here but getting up to speed. I am going to Argentina in a month. I will NOT want to make any calls or use internet there. However, my question is: without being "connected", will I still be able to use my phone to access my programs such as: contacts, to do lists, applications in general (if they don't require connectivity), etc.? I'm wanting to put a english to spanish translator on my phone and maybe some lesson plans from a learning program i'm going to purchase - will they work too? In general, what will work and what won't? Thanks.

Anything that can be done that doesn't require a connection will still function. Think of it as an itouch with a camera and video recorder. Apps that don't need a connection will function fine.

There are some fairly good Spanish lesson apps out there in Appsland. Just go to the market and type in Spanish into the search bar. Some are relatively inexpensive, and some are not. As for using your phone as a glorified PDA, yes you can. May I suggest that you contact Verizon and have your phone service discontinued. That way not only will you be unable to call out, but more important, nobody will be able to call you making you incur charges (especially those expensive roaming charges).

very good idea or at least get them to enable international service for a month....if you are out of the country you get charged for a call you never pick up also if someone leaves a voicemail its even more because you get the call charge and another charge for sending the voicemail back to a server here in the us,,,and if you check the voicemail on your cell add more to the mix.
