Messaging limits

Hi,

We have 4 lines on the 1400 text and talk which has unlimited texting. One high schooler abuses texting - we think 13,000 per month is too much. We're paying for usage limits but the constraints are too limiting and complicated. Not complicated in the sense of how to set the limits from the web, but complicated from the teenager management perspective where we'd have to tweak the limits once a day depending on the circumstances. We want to limit to say, 2,000 per month. We're told that that can't be done because we have an unlimited plan. I can't believe I'm the only parent in this dilmemma.

Any advice? Desparate to solve this situation without having to start world war III in the home.

As a parent you can tell your child if they go over a certain limit, the text feature on there phone will be cancelled or the phone will be turned off. If your paying the bill you have the right to set limits and enforce those limits.

Simply be a parent, set rules and limits and if not followed, follow up with consequences up to blocking all texting, to where they can not send or receive any. Let them be mad at you. They will get over it.

i truly appreciate the replies but am not looking for parenting advice. AT&T will allow you to please restrictions on #texts sent even if you have an unlimited texting plan. That's what i want. I don't want to be managing a phone, taking it away or tweaking the allowed usage times. I'm paying for usage limits. From a software engineering standpoint, it should be a brain dead simple feature given that the usage limits have a rich enough rule set to restrict phone usage.

I need the unlimited texting plan because there are 3 other phones on the plan.

Are you saying you are setting message limits online and the child is still able to exceed the limit? Or are they able to exceed the limits due to trusted numbers????

Neither actually. I pay extra per month for "Usage Controls". This allows you to set complicated rules for when the kid can or cant use the phone, like not between 9-4pm on weekdays, after midnight on mon-thur, after 1am on weekends, etc. All I want is to say, no usage after 3000 text messages. Unfortunately, you can't do that if you have an unlimited plan. You can do that, I think, if your plan has an upper cap on text messages.
