Micro SDHC 16 GB Card problems

I've searched and read many instances on this board of problems with the MicroSDHC card that ships with the Droid X. I had a similar problem. My card came pre-installed (16GB) and the phone arrived on 10/2/2010. The phone and card worked flawlessly until today 10/5/2010. I got an error saying the card was "blank" this morning when I turned the phone on. I've lost all my music and pics and a few apps. I tried some of the remedies on other postings on this board to no avail. I took a 2GB Micro SD Card from another phone, inserted it and powered up the phone and it works just fine. The 2GB was a Sandisk card which I have used over two years in another phone.

I am starting to get the impression that these "no name brand" cards, probably bought in bulk, are the culprit. I will be going by the local Verizon store (30 miles away as I live in a very rural area) and attempt to get them to exchange the card that doesn't work.

Original 16GB card was dead...Corporate Verizon store employee stated that Motorola uses bulk cards that are not the best quality it seems. The employee had no problem exchanging it for a brand new Sandisk card. Card mounted correctly and seems to be working perfectly now.

After unmounting the current card and removing it. Place the old card back in the phone. Then mount it and unmount it to remove the card. Once you removed the card re-insert the card, and re-mount it. Try this step twice.

To remove card:

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).

Touch Settings.

Touch SD card & phone storage.Touch Unmount SD card.

Press and hold the Power button.

Touch Power off.

Remove the battery cover.

Press and slide the battery cover down until it unlocks.

Remove the battery.

Utilize the pull tab to lift the battery from the battery compartment.

Remove the memory card as shown.

Insert the battery as shown.

Ensure that the connectors on the battery align with the connectors on the device.

Ensure that the pull tab remains visible / accessible as the battery is inserted.

Replace the battery cover.

Press and slide the battery cover up until it locks into place.

To insert card:

Touch Power off.

Remove the battery cover.

Press and slide the battery cover down until it unlocks.

Remove the battery.

Utilize the pull tab to lift the battery from the battery compartment.

With the gold contacts facing down, insert the memory card as shown.

Press in on the card until it locks into place.

Insert the battery as shown.

Ensure that the connectors on the battery align with the connectors on the device.

Ensure that the pull tab remains visible / accessible as the battery is inserted.

Replace the battery cover.

Press and slide the battery cover up until it locks into place.

Tried it exactly as you stated...no luck.

When I insert the old card (both times) I went to Mount the card and the following messages show up:

Preparing SD Card

SD Card safe to remove

Blank SD Card

When I put my old Sandisk 2GB back in the message is:

Preparing SD Card

The card is fully mounted when I go in and check it in Settings.

I will be going to the retail store tonight to get a replacement.

I had the same thing happen to me and I went into the VZW store and they tried everything to read what was on the card that I had and no luck they tried to hook it up to the computer and read what was on it and it would not even open the file, they eventually after I was there for about an hour gave me a new sd card because that one was fried it wouldn't do anything. I backup my pictures with photo bucket so the only things I really lost was my music and ringtones and the apps that were on the card. Your best bet is to take it in and have them replace the card.
