Froyo OTA Update broke my Exchange Account!

I received the "official" OTA update last night for my Droid and installed it this morning. My corporate exchange account worked wonderfully before the installation and has been since I got the phone on it's release date. After the installation, it's broken. I've tried deleting the account and re-entering it and just get a message that advises that it's unable to connect to the server.

I've found that this has happened to many who have used the FRG01B update that VZW rolled out. Anyone hear of a solution to this problem? VZW, is there any plan to fix this bug? I need my email and calendar back!!! It's part of the reason I got this phone in the first place!

first, let me tell you about my "registering on these forums" experience. I tried over and over and it would not let me register. silly little errors like, "your registration cannot be completed, try again later."

Nonetheless, I have seen a few postings about how Froyo hoses Exchange(Corporate)e mail and I wanted to talk about why it is happening. I was finally able to register from within my myverizon account, I could not do it any other way. Also, got a page cannot be displayed error when I tried to click the support site for the community/blog.

Anyway, the solution:

It looks like Froyo is forcing the use of a certificate on your Exchange portal. It really is that simple. Your Exchange Admin just needs to put a cert on the portal and then enable SSL. That is all it takes, then on your phone, select to use SSL and Accept all Certs in the Inbound Accounts settings. For some reason, corporate mail does not work without SSL, even if you uncheck the box.

Most people won't have this problem since they probably already have a cert on the mailserver portal.

I only wish it were that simple.

We're already set up with a security certificate (have been) and SSL is used.

My original settings (and the settings I'm attempting to use now when re-establishing my account that I deleted in the vain hope that that would fix my problem) are with SSL enabled and all certificates accepted.

Back to the drawing board.... Any other ideas?

Have you tried Exchange by Touchdown to see if it works? It has a free trial that you can use to test it.

I assume you have Use SSL enabled, 128 bit checked(if that's how you are configured), Anonymous access off (on your OMA node) and Basic Authentication selected as well. All are part of the directory security tab on your IIS server.

Also, ignore client certs is important.

on your phone make sure you have SSL enabled as well as Accept all certs.

There is a good tool that MS manages that will enable to you test why you are having issues, visit https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com .

don't use an admin account at that site.

one more thing, don't forget to do an iisreset after making changes.

Double and triple check your settings... they added safety protocol to the update, so maybe you need to undo some of those in your settings..

If you cannot get your email try taking it into a store or go to www.seven.com and download their software. It was the only way to get certain accounts on certain phones for me.

An hour and a half on the phone with a VZW and Motorola rep resulted in a new phone being sent my way. They feel that the update was corrupted and has hosed the phone.

I tried Touchdown and it works great.... I just shouldn't have to pay $20 for an app to make the phone do what it's supposed to do natively! We'll see if the replacement works.

At least I'm getting a newer phone out of the deal... Thanks all for your suggestions.

I updated my Droid a few hours ago and had the same problem. In reading the threads here, I proceed to go to my company OWA. I noticed that address changed from the mail.XX.XX to securemail.XX.XX. It worked. Several of my coworkers had the same problem including an AT&T Samsung. Once they changed the server to securemail, they've had no problems since. Hope this helps.

Yes, Cob... as you state Seven is free. It does, however, require the use of international text messaging which I don't have on my package, so in the long run it will cost me far more than the $20 I will have to pay for touchdown.

I received the new phone with 2.1 in it. Again, the account worked flawlessly. A couple days later, the 2.2 update came in. **bleep** me did the update again and just like last time, the account broke.

I double-checked with my IT guy and everything is set up correctly. I attempted the settings change that was suggested by Rogermae to no avail.

I have standard text package... I guess international was included because I didn't have to pay any extra.

International messaging as far as i know is not included in the messaging packages ($20, $10 & $5 ones). Unless are you texting to Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico??
