Battery Life

The DROID X is my first smartphone. Surprised at the limited battery life. Phone was fully charged at midnight and by 9:30 a.m. needed to be charged again. This was only after a phone call lasting 20 minutes, 2 text messages, and 5 minutes of checking emails. Is this normal? Or, do I need to change some settings to get more life out of the battery between charges? Thx

Try this, let your device charge with the power off and wait until it is at exactly 100% and make sure you don't have any other apps running while the device is on, that drains the battery as well. Hope this helps!

I had a similar problem until I disabled the GPS. It made a huge difference.

Applications running in the background will affect battery life greatly..... Remember, the more that a phone does, the less time a battery will last. The amount of time the screen is on will affect the life of the battery too.

My X replaces my Zune (MP3 player for music and podcasts), my PocketPC (Handheld finances, games) and also is my GPS that I wanted to buy not that long ago., It is also my emergency ebook reader ( for when I do not want to take my Nook somewhere)... so basically it replaced 3 things that I do not need to carry anymore. WIth that much power and a large screen, yes, it will last less time on battery. But that is the tradeoff that I am willing to have to not have to worry about bringing more gadgets to places that I go.

To improve my battery life, I do not turn on Bluetooth, GPS or WiFi unless I am going to use it.

They do make an extended battery for the X. It is suppose to be out sometime this month

on the top of your home screen and see if GPS, Bluetooth, or and Apps show up on the top bar, if they do, just disable it, try downloading the App AppKiller from the market to easily see and stop these programs from sucking the life from your phone, In case you're running out of juice due to constant "attentional" use, Seidio has designed a battery that will give you a SLIGHT boost in capacitance... here is the link http://www.seidioonline.com/category-s/4362.htm . I personally don't think the 14% increase is worth $50, and am willing to wait for the 130% increase 3500mAh battery that will release later, for what I will assume be about $65. But the current extended battery will fit with your existing backplate, and will not make your phone more bulky. Hope I helped.

There is no need to go to seidio as Verizon Wireless has original Motorola issue extended batteries available online and through phone sales. The battery that seidio has for sale is a 1750 mAh battery; the Motorola battery is 1880 mAh. They are basically the same cost. But seidio is not shipping theirs until 8/23.....Verizon Wirless is shipping them now. I ordered mine on Wednesday, got it shipped free overnight on Thursday.
