I have read that there are some issues with battery life. Can you somehow use AC power to get around this problem i.e running the device off of the charger? Is there some AC adapter that can be used like you do in a laptop?

Yes you can run the X while on the charger....... I do it all the time.
The only limitation is the length of the USB cord.
