HTC Incredible Droid - How do I make songs into ringtones?

I have been having a really hard time making my own ringtones, but it was really easy on my old DARE. I have the computer set up with the Verizon Media and I transferred a song over... but how can I make that song a ringtone?

Even when I tried to text message a ringtone over from the previous phone, I can't seem to save it / set it as a ringtone.

Please help! I can't stand having the dumb dingie style ringtones!!!

I connected to the phones memory (removable drive) and created a folder called "media" and in that I created a folder called "ringtones". This is the removable drive that has a folder called ".footprints". I loaded in my ringtone (mp3) files and they appeared as ringtone selections. You need to unplug the phone from the computer before you will be able to see them or use them because you are unable to use anything in memory if it is connected as an removable drive.

or get the app ringdroid. i used it and it works pretty well. you select the track that you want to use and then trim the time frame that you want to actually use for the tone. you can do it all through the app on your phone so if the music is already on your phone, there is no need to plug it into your pc. i just like the trim feature. i can take a track and have a particular segment of it be the ringtone.

I have not made any ringtones from my music on my DInc. However, it appears simple with the app Double Twist, which also happens to be my preferred Droid music player. With Double Twist, just pull up a song and hold your finger over it to use that song as a ringtone. I'm not sure whether you can later fetch that particular file and move it to store as simply one of many made music ringtones. You may be able to use a file manager for that. So if you just want one new ringtone, this is a really simple way. If you want many, probably just use AZSALUKI's suggestion.
