VZ Messages PIN?

I've gotten three messages about my VZ Message PIN telling me to scan a QR code with the device I want to activate. Is this something that triggers automatically when using an old device? I'm using my old phone trying that says it is "activation incomplete," and they messages started to send when I turned it on. I haven't tried to connect to Verizon messaging though, I've only been using Google Photos theough wifi. Would it be sending these messages anyway, or are they being sent for a different reason?

Hello, OB4303, thanks for the clarification. When turning on a device and connecting it to WiFi, it will generally attempt activation through the WiFi connection. That is why ou are seeing the message that activation is incomplete etc. You are okay to power up your previous phone and use it on WiFi as needed without changing your account as long as you're not switching your SIM card back as well. I didn't move any sim cards, but it is the same phone number as my current phone. I turned it on for the first time in years to backup its camera roll to google photos. I connected to wifi and updated a few apps, but didn't do anything more than just look at the messaging app. Initially, I could see up to the last text messages it had received before I upgraded and stopped using that phone, and now it says "start messaging." I never clicked this but I'm wondering if just turning it on and connecting to wifi has made it automatically try and connect to verizon services and that's why I'm getting the texts.
