I have been successfully using the Verizon Message + app on my Galaxy S5 phone for many years. When I opened the app yesterday morning (7/6/23) everything was okay. When I opened it again in the afternoon, A dialog box appeared: "Update Needed". You are currently using an old version of the app. In order to continue using the app, you will need to update it." The only option was a button labelled "Update Now".
When I clicked on "Update Now", a different window opened: "Unfortunately, Message+ has stopped". The only option was a button labelled "OK". I clicked on "OK" and was returned to the home screen. Going back to "Message+", I received the same messages over and over.
I have searched online and cannot find any mention of this issue. At this time, I cannot open the application; I cannot compose or send texts; and although I received notification of new incoming texts, I cannot open or read them. As I cannot open the application, I cannot get into the Message+ settings page.
I tried to log into the "My Verizon" wireless account on my computer, but the logon process sends a verification text to my phone, which I cannot open...
I am dead in the water here. What can I do? I've heard that reinstalling the app resets and erases all the messages, so I do not want to do that. How do I just "update" Message+ without losing my data?
