After Friday, April 15, location is no longer available except the coarse location when logged on to a WIFI network. In other words, the GPS location will not work and the location via the wireless (cell system) won't work.
Was trying to avoid that hassle! If nobody else had this happen I will try the reset. All other functions are operating correctly.
Rebooting is less drastic than a factory reset. Rebooting is shutting down the phone and restarting it (removal of battery and reinstalling is optional).
A factory reset wipes everything on the phone and restores it to out of the box fresh. You lose contacts, data, etc. anything stored on the phone. The SD card is not touched. But you do have to restore your contacts, applications, settings, etc after a factory reset.
Try a reboot first.
Re-boot has been done mutiple times. Since it was working fine one day, and then was totally messed up the next, I was hoping that it was some sort of system wide problem and not just my phone. Since it is also the coarse location from cell towers as well as the GPS function that is messed up, I had hoped it was some sort of software update gone bad.
how do you uninstall updates to google maps?
Does any other app work that uses the GPS work? try GPS STATUS and see if you can get a link while your outside....(You can find the FREE version in the market.)
It doesnt work when on Wifi is because it uses your data connection to triangle location and with wifi it will be using data from random located servers that causes the lock to be incorrect...
Go into Settings / Locations and Settings and make sure the GPS is activated to allow app to use it instead of data to get location.
This should resolve your lock issue..
