Verizon Promo Credit

My mother in law has recently tried to switch to Cox mobile. When I called Verizon gave me a transfer pin. Nice conversation. Luckily the lady called me back to inform me I would owe $700. I told the lady I traded a phone in and got the new phone for free. She said that’s not how it works. I said but they took my phone and said my new phone was free. The poor lady had not idea how to help me. Verizon has been extremely dishonest with the customers their customers by saying no contracts but lock you in for 36 months based on their “hidden” trade in clause. I have been with Verizon for over 16 years. Time to change!!!!

Sorry about your experience, but it was in the fine print. The "free phone" deals give you a free phone only if you stay with Verizon for 36 months, as the way it is working is you're getting a bill credit every month until the credits add up to the cost of the phone. Leaving early means you are responsible for the remaining balance on the phone minus credits already received.

The other carriers run similar promos in the same way, where the fine print says you have to stay for 24-36 months, otherwise the credits stop and you have to pay for the device.

When a device is free based on the trade-in of a previous device, the cost of the new phone is significantly reduced based on you keeping your account active with us for 36 months. If you choose to cancel the line, the promo is reversed as then there will be cost. May I ask is there a reason you want to cancel this line?
