Disconnected Landline as a Wireless Number

I am a Verizon Wireless customer. I want to have my old landline (which is Verizon) as my wireless number. They say this is possible. HOWEVER, the disconnected number has been disconnected for years, so Verizon says it has to be activated as a landline before they can port it to be my wireless number. But, I don’t have Verizon Home Phone in my area. Any suggestions for what to do? Is this really the case? I will literally pay for landline service to get this number activated so I can port it.

It is possible to convert a landline to mobile, but it's a different process than just porting a number. I do not know the exact specifics, but this has got to be the reason why you're being told the number has to be activated as a landline first. However...

With the number in question having been disconnected for years, it must have surely been recycled to someone else by now?

Also, if this landline was a true old-school plain old telephone service (POTS) line and not a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) line, you might not be able to reactivate the old number as is even if it's available, because it at least used to be POTS lines could not be ported to a different area code. I'm guessing your current residence is in a different area code since Verizon doesn't do landline services in your current location. So unless the regulations have changed regarding the area code restrictions, or the number was VoIP...?

Great question lanlinesadness. We want to provide more details. First thing you would have to do is find a provider and then check to see if the number is even available. Numbers are recycled so you would need to make sure it has not been assigned to someone else. If it is then you could port it in to your wireless service and even use it on the same phone with our Second number feature. The ~Peter
