OEM unlock - Pixel 8 pro

Hi,

I have recently bought a Pixel 8 Pro on a French platform (rakuten) from a vendor I guessed was importing the device from wherever, but I did not expect it to be OEM locked.

The interest that made me buy the device is concentrated into two features, the first being the 7 year long support for updates and patches ; the other being that Pixel phones are fine to being degoogled, and that I could install GrapheneOS that ensures the same standards of security while implementing a confidentiality and anonymity policy utterly foreign to the well-known scraping Google corporation.

After discussing my issue of OEM unlock being greyed out - even after connecting to the internet, inserting a French SIM card, factory reset the phone - I was able to find out that my phone had « apnlib » app installed which I discovered was proper to Verizon phones. As during my researches I found out too about Verizon’s policy - I did not even know what your company was as a European - of a mixed double ignorance-unwillingness stance regarding bootloader unlocking, I am just here to try, even if it is vain, to find a path of getting my bootloader unlocked, since I have not any link to the American network nor Verizon.

It is time for Verizon to make a script of some kind available to OEM unlock your phone. Verizon, you can't sell devices, claiming that they are Pixels, when you've intentionally stripped out core functionality. Let alone when you don't even mention that they're defective in your marketing materials... Make the script.

Do you need the device carrier unlocked from Verizon so you can use it in France? Or the bootloader unlocked so you can install a custom ROM? Those are two completely different things. Verizon does not and will not help you unlock the bootloader.

i was unaware that the phone i purchased would not be able to perform the services that I want it to. where does verizon get off being able to tell me what i can and cant do with my phone? they didnt buy it, i did! if i brick it its my own fault and would never blame them for it. but now i want to get rid of this piece of junk and go to a better carrier that allows me to use their service with my phone. God I hope the rumors are ture about Verizon and their illegal business practices overseas. i would be grinning ear to ear if the US put a stop to their antics. guess ill just have to break the phone i have to get a new one and sell it to some other chump that thinks verizon will be around for the long haul

I am French with no knowledge of your company and no link with your company, I recently bough to a french online shop this pixel 8pro as brand new phone, I've just discovered that this phone seems to be coming with the same "apnlib" app and explaining that i cannot OEM unlock it now. I bought this phone for the 7years support and the possibility to provide it with a secure system and unlocking all the power of the phone. Now that I've spotted the issue I would like to request your kind support in order to allow this phone to have the bootloader unlocked in order for me to use it fully as i bought the phone to.

Hi, can I also get help doing this same thing? I need to enable OEM unlocking on my Pixel 8 I purchased through you guys. I would like to tweak my phone and I am okay with voiding any warranty and take full responsibility for the device.

Since your device was purchased through a third party retailer, I would recommend to partner with them directly on the unlock options or activation options so it will automatically unlock. Heres a look at our unlock policy as well.

I am in Europe with a pixel that I have just found out is a Verizon model as well. Found out by running the serial number through Google's warranty page. Don't care about the warranty, I just want full access to ALL functions of MY phone. OEM unlock is a function of the phone, it is clearly there in developer options, yet it is greyed out on this phone. I need this resolved and access granted back to ME, the OWNER!

I am having the same problem. My device is SIM-unlocked but not bootloader-unlocked.

Hello ice_236. We are not able to provide support for unlocking or unlocked bootloaders, as it is consdered altering the core software and is against our terms and conditions.

Is the phone SIM locked or bootloader locked? There is a difference. Verizon will not unlock the bootloader for you, they don't do that. If the phone is SIM locked to Verizon they might or might not help depending on whether you are the original owner with a Verizon account. This is why you should not buy phones from third party sources, they sold you the wrong phone for your country.
