Factory Reset Strangeness

Hi, I just did a factory reset to my Droid 2 Global. I've done this a few times in the past but this time I found some strange things:

1) Not all my apps reapprered. To be fair, the first one that I notced wasn't there I remembered I had downloaded it from somewhere else, but around 10% of my market apps didn't automatically reload. The ones I remember are all free, so I just downloaded them from the market, but I don't remember this happening before. Also, a few apps that I had uninstalled got downloaded.

2) I went through the apps using Market>My Apps, checking the "Allow automatic updating" checkbox. In a few cases, touching the box caused the whole Updates section to disappear from the app listing, so the section starts with My Review. I know I have NEVEr seen that before! This persists after reboot. Several of the apps have the Updates section, others don't.

Any ideas?

Jasnmar is correct about the first issue. In regards to your second issue, we recommend uninstalling the application directly from the Application section in Settings. To do so, please follow the steps below:

1. Menu

2. Settings

3. Applications

4. Manage Applications

5. Select the application

6. Select Uninstall

Issue 1 is "as expected" (perhaps not by you, but it is the intended mechanism :smileyhappy: ).

Not all apps associate themselves with your google account, especially some free ones. It's really up to the application developer to decide whether or not they associate. In some cases for the free one's it just isn't worth the developers time to figure out how to do this.

2nd problem - No idea. Sorry.

Thanks, but my confusion was because these apps did indeed restore on previous resets, so I think "something went wrong" (technical diagnosis!) But I didn't know about the association: so there are apps you can install from the market that won't automatically restore? I thought that that was somehow handled by the market so that developers didn't need to do anything, but what you say makes sense.

As for the second problem, it suddenly disappeared!
