Do you still have the slow-motion replay feature we used to have with the VMS1100? This is for those with the new Fios One VMS4100

Hi, if you have the VMS4100 you surely have the Fios TV One remote control, which is the smaller black one that has 3 rows of keys above the navigation ring. This remote has fast rewind, pause/play, and fast forward buttons.

With the VMS1100 remote, the more colorful p265 one with blue and red buttons (and more), there is a row of keys marked with the symbols for rewind and forwards either side of the play/pause button. It also has the back and forth skip buttons above that, either side of the blue "DVR" button.

Well, the issue here, is that with the p265 remote you could alays press the "play/pause" button, then while it's in pause mode, the left and right buttons allowed you to replay in slow motion ("slo-mo" in sports), and also to slow motion forwards.

So if you have the newer VMS4100 "Fios TV One" system, are you able to set the replay in slow motion at all? In DVR playback, all my own DVRs allow slow motion replay, even the old VCRs used to do it! And Verizon Fios always had this before the VMS41 00 and VMS4100ATV media.

Hi, yes, I did try using the older p265 remote with the Fios+ equipment, but it didn’t recognize it at all.

I see the Fios+ remote control has to first be twinned with the specific Fios+ mini device. And it turns out the Fios+ remote is the ONLY remote that will work with the Fios+ equipment, as it turns out. For this reason, the p265 will not, of course, be recognized.

All of this would likely have been very different, if I’d had the luck to get the VMS4100. So that’s the end of the road. The VMS4100ATV will not activate, even with help from the online technicians.

So the best solution has been to return the equipment. From the lack of discussion generally on the Internet, I have the impression this equipment isn’t ready for mass distribution. But at least I’m more familiar with its quirks now. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has been successful in activating their VMS4100ATV. In the meantime, mine’s on its way back so it can perhaps be repaired.

I did indeed return the newest, VMS4100ATV system, the "Fios plus" media center, with its "Fios plus" mini STBs.

Verizon very graciously and quickly has already now sent me the VMS4100 "Fios TV One" system, with its "Fios TV One mini" set top boxes. And THIS system I like a lot, along with the better 3 rows above the navigation ring (in lieu of the only 2 rows above the navigation ring as in the Fios+ remotes). The VMS4100 authenticated immediately, the mini boxes set up easily, and I give top marks to the equipment design and operability (although I do miss the time readout the old boxes had!).

And since I now HAVE the VMS4100 system, I can now answer the original question in this thread. The answer is YES, those with the VMS4100 DO INDEED still have the slow motion replay available on the VMS1100. And also the skip feature, which indeed is similar to the features on the 1100.

The next gen system--the VMS4100ATV--from what I experienced, DOES have a skip feature (albeit a miserable 10 seconds only skip). But from what I saw, it appears that it DOES NOT have the slow motion replay available any longer. And I suspect one reason for this loss of convenience and functionality is a result of the online services veering towards the streaming concept, as seen when using a Roku, for instance. What you might have would be the audio capability, where you could tell it to skip a minute or two forwards, for instance.

I for one, will not miss the VMS4100ATV.

Have you tried using the P265 remote with the 4100box? It should still work as long as you have line-of-sight.

Thanks, but I won’t be able to verify this until the VMS4100ATV lets itself be activated (possibly this will be possible at the end of this week.

I’ll know at that time whether that’s possible, although if I were to keep the equipment (VMS4100ATV), I’d still have to send back those older remotes along with the VMS1100. And if I were to buy replacements, this would upend the reason for the upgrade in the first place (defective remotes). {Note… this web page refuses to let me edit the following paragraph from “y0” to “60” so I had to add this here.}

I think I’ll most likely be sending the new system back regardless, since it isn’t capable of slow motion, (and may even be limited to 10 second skipping, unlike the old one which also did 30 and y0 second skips).

The VMS4100 will work with the P265 remote. The new VMS 4100ATV and the Fios + boxes are blutooth only. You can get an IR adapter for the Fios + boxes though, which will let you use the P265 or a universal remote.

I will finally be able to answer my own question in a few days, since—thankfully—Verizon has accepted back the failed VMS4100ATV system, and they’re sending me the VMS4100 instead, which is the one I was talking about in starting this thread. I expect this information to be useful to others who get sent the VMS4100ATV (which I don’t recommend).

I’ll let you know, once it arrives and it’s set up.
