Is my Bold 9650 Unlocked?

I just brought a Blackberry Bold running the 6.0 OS and since I want to use a local sim card when I am oversea. It has a Verizon sim card in it now but when I change from global to GSM/UMTS, there is no service. How do I check that the phone is unlocked and if it is not, how do I get it unlocked?

You can call global customer service and ask for the unlock code. Your account must be current and the phone must be activated for a certain time first (60 days, if I remember correctly). Or you can pay someone on eBay to unlock it.
