Iphone 13 SIM

Iphone 13 Genera/ Carrier Lock says. "SIM locked".

So I went to the Verizon store and they called someone in operations to unlock it. No can do they said "It is unlocked". "It is probably an Apple lock on the SIM". Of course that is ridiculous. But I checked anyway and Apple just laughed. Even I knew they don't control the phone. "Maybe you should post this problem on the internet somewhere" Verizon told me.

Background. I bought the phone from Verizon. Paid it off in 3 years. Did not notice they did not unlock it after payoff. But I did not follow up because I was not planning to change carriers. Now I am. Needed new SIM card a few months ago. Verizon store replaced it but it would not unlock You may ask why I want this phone unlocked now. Because I want to change carriers. And if I allow this # to be ported to another carrier they will not be able to put an eSIM on the phone because it is locked. And then........my phone # will probably just be returned to Verizon.....a long, confusing task, I bet.

yeah. phone says locked. . Like I said, Verizon sent me to Apple. because they don't understand their products. Apple does not understand Verizon. A Catch 22………..your phone is not locked because Verizon says so, my phone is locked because Verizon says so.

This is some kind of glitch, as your phone should have unlocked after 60 continuous days of use on Verizon. I've heard of this problem occurring before, but it is with 3rd party purchased phones where they can't verify you being the legitimate owner because the purchase details are not in your Verizon account. However, you bought the phone through Verizon...unless it was a 3rd party store and not a corporate one?

Porting out will not cause you to lose your number, because you are taking it with you, which is why it's called "porting". Your options are:

1) Keep pushing on Verizon to unlock your phone if you have abundant proof that you are the legitimate owner of the phone. If they won't cooperate, file a complaint with the FCC.

2) Buy a new phone from the new carrier. The advantage of this is all of the carrier's features will work on their phones. Unlocked phones will not support all carrier features, so things which you may be taking for granted on your Verizon phone will not be there any more if the phone is unlocked and taken elsewhere.

Thanks. I bought it directly from Verizon by mail. after it wa paid off the phone ws never unlocked. So I asked them to give me a ne SIM and they did. Cannot unlock that one either. Going to another store and ask them to call tech again.

A phone being locked has nothing to do with the SIM or eSIM; it's the carrier software installed on the phone which ties it to a carrier. The "SIM lock" verbiage simply means you cannot insert some other carrier's SIM/eSIM to the phone as they will not work until the phone has been unlocked.

If you continue to have no luck with getting someone at Verizon to unlock the phone, you will have to find as much evidence as possible indicating that you purchased the phone legitimately and then file a complaint with the FCC. I suspect the reason why the phone did not automatically unlock after 60 days of use on Verizon is because the purchase was not properly tied into your Verizon account, and therefore can't be verified as yours. Or if you are a prepaid customer, there's some kind of glitch with the system thinking you never used the phone for 60 days, because all prepaid plans last 31 days max before they expire. Even if you are on autopay and renew every single month on time without a hitch, the system still thinks you never hit 60 days?

Sure hope you get it resolved one way or another.
