Droid 2 Self Rebooting

My wife has the Droid 2 and she absolutely enjoys it but it keeps cutting off by itself. Sometimes it reboots other times it just cuts off and she has to remove the battery in order to get it to reboot. Has anyone else had this problem? What can she do any suggestions?

Even though I can not get VZW tech to admit it, I think this is a common problem with these phones. I have two D2 on account and both have this problem. I even got a replacement that I had to send back because it had the same problem within 2 days of activating it. If you search these fourms you can see it is an issue that comes up. Check Moto's forums and Android Central's Droid 2 forums and you see the same problem. I still experience it about once a day. However, I did find one thing to slow it down from happening quite as much. When she has time about once a day, tell her to just turn the phone off for about 5 mins then turn it back on. It is not the ideal situation, but it is better to turn it off when it is easy for her, than her need the phone and can't make a call b/c the phone is froze up or restartng. I like my D2, but it does get annoying to need the phone and have to wait for it to unfreeze and restart.

I have had this phone since shortly after it launched and have not had this issue. Has she recently downloaded any apps? If she has, she can uninstall them and see if it is the app affecting the phone this way. Another option would be to do a factory reset. This will delete all data on the phone (data stored on the sd card will not be affected), so she will want to be sure her contacts are backed up.

If this does not resolve the problem, call in to tech support to see if she is covered under warranty. If she is, the phone can be replaced.

I've had my Droid 2 since the day it came out and I never had the reboot problems until I installed Better Keyboard.

Also, you don't have to remove the battery to reboot. Just hit alt+shift+delete on the physical keyboard.

As for the reboot issue, it is a known issue with both Verizon & Motorola. Unless you are looking at your phone constantly, it is easy to miss the reboot. It isn't something that happens often, but it does happen. Happens with ones fresh out of the box as well. The issue is with the Android OS itself, as I have sent logcats to both Verizon and Motorola. I have insiders at both locations, but they are useless and won't tell me anything other than, "We know."

It's easy to tell if your device has rebooted. Install a terminal emulator and run uptime.

I did not have any random reboots until I installed that app.
