Sometimes I get notifications for emails, etc and sometimes I don't. It's very annoying as I 'm always having to check my phone to see if I have an email or text. Is there a setting that needs to be set? Or unset?

Best thing I have found is to download the app from the store entitled "missed call for android". This app will allow you to receive a tailored alert every time of a missed call, etc. In addition, I also ended up installing the "K-9 Mail" app to handle my email instead of the stock app. Works like a charm! Hope that helps!
Normally, when you stop being notified of messages, it is due to your phone's connection with the network. This connection needs to be "refreshed" ocassionally, by simply powering your phone off for about 30 seconds, then back on. I recommend doing this daily, as it keeps the profile the network houses for your phone and phone number fresh, making it easier to find your phone when alerting of messages received. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
