Could I get short message from US in China?

I live in China now, and I need to use Craigslist.com, which has a short message certification before a ad is published. Now I use a cell phone number of China Mobile, Craiglist.com permits only US number to get the message. My AT&T number can't receive the message in China.

1) Can I get the message with a Verizon phone or sim card in a CDMA/GSM cell phone in China, not US? How to do?

2) And how much is the roaming and receiving price of every message?

3)How to add money to the number online? or I just can buy prepaid card or pay in a Verizon shop? I haven't time to return US recently.

I need the way to get only text messages from craigslist.com, it is very important to me.

China is mostly CDMA, (must be why the ATT phone will not work, but some small areas are GSM) For it to work, the person with the VZW phone would have had international services added before coming to China.

Prepaid card??? You mean a SIM???? No, VZW is CDMA, they do not use SIM's. If you have an ATT phone only, there is nothing you can do.

Even if you could get a prepaid catd there, it would be GSM. They do not have GSM service where you are.

I thought you could get confirmations via email also

Can VZW's phone get messages from US in China. I can buy one VZW phone in US. And how can I add money to the phone when I am in China?

Someone in the US will need to purchase a Verizon phone for you, activate and program it, and then send it to you to use in China. I do not know if the daily prepaid plans can be used internationally, so you may have to have someone set up and maintain a postpaid account for you in the US. You will not be able to reprogram or update your phone over-the-air, and you may have difficulties making payments/adding money to your account. Verizon's service is not intended to function as you are trying to use it. It is designed to be used primarily in the US, and only occasionally (and quite expensively) on foreign networks.

You should be able to add money with a prepaid card over the phone, IF prepaid service will work overseas. I doubt Verizon will accept payments from foreign banks over the phone, so you will need a US credit card if you choose to use the #PMT method minnehaha described, and that may also not work while overseas.

Honestly, your questions are best answered by placing a call directly to Verizon's International Customer Service line, since this is a rather unusual case and this forum is mostly frequented by other customers that use their phones primarily in the US.

Also, I'd like to point out that the reason Craigslist requires a US phone number for verification is because Craigslist is designed to be a posting board for LOCAL services. There are very few legitimate reasons why someone without a US phone number would want to post anything on those boards.

Craigslist.com has services oversea, I am in Shanghai now, and I wants to use Shanghai Craigslist.com. It needs a US number, maybe the market oversea is not big enough. So ... I have to get a US number now. :smileyhappy:
