Voicemails gone?

I recently tried to get put a AT & T phone on a verizon account. Verizon Customer Service said the unlocked the phone (AT&T) and that they overrided it to make it work. So the phone, the process never got done or finished. The man helping me was not very helpful, he said it would not work, I ask him to call 611 and he said that is my job not his. He finally open the phones and tried to switch the sim cards, but then told me it didn't work. I have the old phone, but can not call voice mail. My mom died and I had voince mails from her. Is there any way to get them back?

I mean AT&T said the phone was unlocked, I got the phone from a family friend, she paid it off that morning before she gave it to me, then verizon said it was still locked, and the customer service unlocked it., the lady from customer service said she over righted it, to be able to hook the phone to my Verizon account. The phone is still getting alerts and we have not told the company to take it off the line yet. Is there a way to recover the voicemails?

I'm confused. Is it that your phone number is currently with Verizon, and you were trying to switch out the phone being used for said number? Or is it that you are trying to port your number into Verizon using a phone which may or may not be unlocked from AT&T?

If it is the former, I would think you would simply reactivate the old phone, and then your *86 voicemails would work again.

If it is the latter, AT&T must unlock the phone first, otherwise it will not work on Verizon. I don't know what the Verizon reps were telling you exactly, but I have never heard of a carrier being able to "override" or unlock devices which are locked to some other provider. If the voicemails in question were with AT&T, those will NOT transfer over because every company has their own system for voicemails.
