Set top boxes lock up on Music Choice

I have three boxes, a VMS 1100 and two IPC 1100's. They keep locking up on the Music Choice channel (1849). It will show loading but will not respond to any input from the remote. I've waited 15-20 minutes but it never goes off loading. For whatever reason when I hit too many buttons changing channels it will automatically go to channel 1849 and lock up. I have to power cycle the boxes to get them back. I don't use the Music Choice channels. Is there any way to delete them so it doesn't automatically go there or is this a bigger problem with the boxes. I know I've had to power cycle them far more than the old Motorola boxes I had.

Yup. If an Ethernet cable is run from the ONT to the router, Verizon can switch the Internet service. The switchover is usually done remotely, but I've read about instances where a technician was dispatched to do the work locally.

I have 4100 series STBs. When selecting a Music Choice channel, the box will access the on board M.C. app as opposed to the channel. I don't know if the 1100 series boxes do as well.

To the best of my knowledge, it isn't possible to completely remove the Music Choice from the channel lineup.

One thing that might work is to try putting a Parental Lock on the channel range. It wouldn't skip over the channels, but, if it worked, would prevent the content from being shown.

That sounds like what's happening. It's trying to load the app and is locking up. I will try your suggestion. Thanks.

The 1100 series boxes were retired many years ago. They no longer have enough ram or a fast enough processor to keep up with the current guide and channel info. You may need to upgrade equipment to get better service out of them. If you choose to upgrade I suggest asking for the Fios One VMS4100 series, not the new Fios+ boxes. The + boxes are still having more issues as they are the most current, and as yet don't have the history of fixes the older Fios One boxes have.

If they were retired then why was I just recently sent them to replace my Motorola boxes? I wasn't offered any other option. I assume the 4100 boxes are an upgrade that costs more.

That is curious. When I upgraded my Internet service a few years ago, Verizon sent me 4100 series STBs to replace our old Motorola STBs.

Now I was changing over all three of my services from legacy contracted to the "mix & match" platform.

Verizon also dispatched a field technician to swap out the old Tellabs 611 ONT to the current model...an Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia) 211.

I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue with the existing hardware (ONT and/or router) that triggered the shipping of the 1100 series STBs.

I assume that the 1100 boxes were the cheapest option since the Motorola boxes were going to be incompatible and they had to send me something. I talked to both billing and customer support and the 4100 boxes were never mentioned. Are you using coax or ethernet. I still have the old ONT with coax.

I'm using Ethernet cabling between the ONT and our G3100 router. The initial Internet speed upgrade was from 75/75 to 200/200.

Since then, I've increased the speed to 1 Gigabit (no plans to increase again even when Verizon brings the higher speeds to the area).

I'm still on the 100/100 plan with coax. If the issues continue I'll see if I can get the 4100 boxes for the same price. I did put the parental lock on the MC channels. Interestingly enough though it originally comes up with the parental lock screen, then loads into the app, starts playing music and then comes up with the lock screen again. However the box shows it's on channel 1849. It didn't lock up but that may be because I just reset it yesterday.

My suspicions are, as Clem noted, that the 1100 series box(es) is(are) the culprit.

I think you'll need one of the current routers in order to switch to the 4100 series STBs.

Can you tell which router you currently have? I'm also curious which model ONT is at your location.

They sent me a 3100 router with the 1100 boxes. I'm not sure about the model number of the ONT but it's Alcatel-Lucent. I think it was replaced a few years ago. I still have coax to the router but I assume it can also use ethernet.
