IS VMS required for TV service?

I have a single TV and am being charged for two connections a month. When I asked Verizon Support they said that one connection was for the TV and the other was for the VMS, but I could return the VMS if I didn't want to pay for it.

If I disconnect the VMS I can no longer get TV service because the set top unit can't to connect to it.

Is it possible to get TV service without the VMS?

If so, how to I configure the set top box to do this?

If it's not possible to have TV without the VMS why am I being charged for two connections?

Sounds like you have a VMS and a Mini from the Fios One 4100 series. If so then you are correct, you need the VMS for the Mini to work. You could just use the VMS without the mini, but I'm not sure Verizon will credit you for the Mini if you sent it back. You'd have to check with billing on that. If you got the newer Fios+ boxes you would be able to just use one box, but it is an entirely different system.
