Pay off phone from other carrier

I switched from my other carrier to Verizon because of the promotion to pay off my phone from the other carrier. Well I have received my prepaid card but they will not let me pay off the phone which is the purpose of the gift card. They will let me spend it in stores but not for bill pay. But the whole purpose was for me to be able to pay off my phone. So now I have to pay out of pocket $300 to pay off my phone. Which defeats the purpose. I am so upset!

I just looked on the website, and this promotion is now gone, so I don't know what the terms and conditions were. But if your old carrier isn't accepting the gift card as payment, then I'd use it for something else so as to free up the funds for your old phone bill. While that's frustrating that the gift card has a restriction, it's better than not getting your rebate at all (of which there are plenty of threads).

I'm wondering if the promotion you received was the $300 Switcher Rebate instead of the "break your contract and we'll pay up to $800" one. If that's the case, I'd use the $300 gift card to pay some other bill (does it work in grocery stores?) and then it'll free up the funds to pay off the old phone.

How long does it take to get the rebate cards on the “up to $800 offer?” I switched over about 8/2 or 8/3. Also was there something I was supposed to do to get those cards sent to me? ATT took it out of my checking automatically which was a gut punch but hoping I can get the cards to offset what was taken out. Thanks for the help!!

We appreciate you reaching out. The pay off your device rebates take up to 8 weeks for delivery from the date you process the rebate. If you haven't processed it online yet, I have placed the steps to do so below. I hope you find this helpful. We are always here if you need us.

1. Access rebate forms through the Account > More > Notifications tab or Account> Orders > Rebates.

2. Review the information and accept the Terms & Conditions.

3. Click Submit.

Result: The customer receives the prepaid e-Mastercard via email within 8 weeks of submission.

1. Access the rebate from the Account > More > Notifications tab or by navigating to My Orders > Rebates.

2. Review information, accept the Terms & Conditions, and click Submit.
