Which phones get the best service in weak signal areas?

We live in a weak service area and travel to areas that also have weak signal. I currently have a pixel 6 and have to rely on wifi to use my phone. I am often left with no service, but yet 2 of my immediate family members will get enough service to make and receive calls and texts. They have the pixel 7 and pixel 8 pro. We used to have Motorola phones and they had better service than my pixel 6 until Motorola removed the dual antenna and then it got even worse when 5g came out. Which lead us to the pixel series. Anyone have any insight? It is especially frustrating because we lose power a lot and my plan my service plan is even a step higher than theirs. (My service plan is step higher so we could have hotspot for our youngest that doesn't have a phone to use on occasion dueing travel and streaming services included which ultimately brought our over all bills lower)

If signal strength is weak, any cell phone is going to struggle with picking up cellular service. With 5G being the latest technology and increasing push to 5G, the reason why you're noticing more problems now when signal strength is already weak is because 5G radio waves do not travel anywhere as far as the older 4G LTE radio waves. Don't think there's any way to manually band select on an Android phone anymore, unfortunately, or I'd suggest switching your phone to use LTE only and not 5G to see if that helps things. At the same time, from what you're describing, you must be using Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate in order to have the hotspot capability and are therefore paying for 5G UW service if it's available...so doesn't make sense for you to disable 5G completely.

If your service is poor everywhere you go...I'd suggest either asking your neighbors who they use or if your phone is unlocked, to do the free trials the other large competitors offer to see if anyone works better.
