live tv audio only dolby 2.0 - no surround

I just got FIOS installed yesterday with tv from the google-based boxes. Is Dolby 2.0 the best quality audio available for any live tv channel? That’s all I see passed through the LG tv to my Sonos system, which surprised me, because I’ve had 5.1 for years from the Optimum service I just cancelled.

Is there an audio quality setting for the fios channels? All I see is the option in the google menu for surround from any app.

I know it’s not an issue with the Fios > LG > Sonos connection because I do get 5.1 dolby plus from other apps on the Fios box.

Did you check under Android TV settings>Device Preferences>Display and Sound whether Dolby or Passthrough is enabled? Many live channels ARE in 5.1 on Fios and you should be able to get that. Is it possible a setting in the TV itself has changed for the audio output?

thanks for the reply I didn’t see until just now. What box do you use? I have wondered if this is an issue with the TV+ boxes but not the previous TV One boxes.

I have the new TV+. In that setting, the options are “Automatic: use device reported formats” or “none: never use surround sound” and I have automatic selected.

I also have the sound options on my LG tv set to “pass through” for the sound out to the sonos soundbar.

I know this work because I get 5.1 surround from other streaming apps in the box.

I have the same problem as above. The issue is with the TV+ boxes. The only audio settings on the TV+ boxes are “Automatic: use device reported formats” or “None: never use surround sound” . I also have Automatic set and live TV channels are in stereo/Dolby 2.0.

My LG TV is set for surround and LG Soundbar is also has the appropriate settings for what should be surround sound.

5.1 surround worked perfectly on the Fios One box. Because we moved (within the same town and 2 miles away) and had to setup new service we were required to "upgrade" to the TV+ boxes. It's very frustrating.

I wonder if it was an issue with the initial handshake between the Fios+ box and the TV. Could be the box didn't get the TV's Dolby surround capability when first setup. with both the box and the TV ON, try unplugging both sides of the HDMI cable from the Fios box and the TV, Plug the TV back in first, then the Fios box. It may try to do the handshake over again.

Thank you for responding! I did try unplugging the HDMI cable like you suggested. Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue. Any updates to updating the Android TV to a version that will allow you to choose the audio preferences?

i have the same issue with the box. Additionally i have had my receiver set to auto for surround decoding and it actually caused issues with the receiver. So i switched the receiver to Dolby and it converts the stereo signal. All apps on the cable box are in 5.1 and the receiver then switches to the proper mode and goes back to Dolby for live tv. No more receiver issues and acceptable sound but still not true 5.1 on live tv. It just started a few months ago even though i have had the box for quite awhile. In retrospect, the cable signal was probably fading in and out and that is when my receiver would freak out as the handshake kept disappearing.
