Hello Verizon Support Team,
I am writing regarding a Google Pixel device that was purchased from Verizon approximately one year ago.
This device has been fully paid of for several months and is currently carrier unlocked (as I've confirmed by activating a Google Fi eSIM on the device). However, the "OEM Unlocking" option within the Android Developer Options menu is greyed out and I am unable to enable it.
I was previously informed by the Verizon support team that this feature would be automatically available 60 days after activating my phone. As this has not happened, I can only assume that I was misinformed by the team and another restriction is preventing the use of this standard Android feature.
As a software developer, the inability to enable OEM unlocking prevents me from using standard tools such as flashing custom images and advanced debugging.
Therefore, I have 2 straightforward questions:
- Is there an internal process or escalation team at Verizon that can remotely lift this arbitrary restriction on my device's IMEI?
- If this is a permanent policy for Verizon sold devices, I would appreciate appropriate compensation, as this was not a restriction I was ever informed of during the process of purchasing the device, purchasing a SIM plan or setting up the device.
To be perfectly clear, I am not requesting a SIM/carrier unlock, as that has already been completed. I am specifically requesting the ability to unlock my bootloader via the "OEM Unlocking" option.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
