Forum Usernames

Just a PSA: I've noticed several members using their email address or their phone number as a username in these forums. This is a privacy risk to you, as anyone who is logged in can see who else is online. And it leaves you open to any spam bots lurking about to now send you spam. Please change your username by going into your profile and picking something else.

Thank you for mentioning this, SynthpopAddict. You can also report these when you see them by clicking the red "Report content" flag to the upper right of each post. A moderator will then be happy to look into it.

My guess this has something to do with the usernames on the forum defaulting to the login username, since you can use a username, phone number or email to login. I know mine did and I know for sure of one other.

I'm starting to think the reason why I've seen so many threads showing email addresses lately is because the "community only" login method which is the default means for signing into the forums asks for your email address or your username to sign in. If someone is completely new, they don't have a username yet. Seems to me something needs to be set up such that when someone new registers on the forums, they get asked to create a username, so their email address doesn't just show up for a username.

There was somebody a few weeks ago logged into the forums and their phone number was being displayed on the "who's online" thing, but they must've signed in via My Verizon. Fortunately, that person didn't post anything.
