I am a property owner directly affected by an active road construction project at 69th Street and Berryton Road, Shawnee County, Topeka, Kansas, and I am reaching out here as a last resort after all other channels have failed.
The issue: Verizon has a fiber line that must be relocated before the road construction project can proceed. The contractor on this project, Bettis Contracting, has made repeated attempts over the past month or more to get Verizon to respond to the relocation request. To date, Verizon has not responded.
The impact on our community:
- The construction project has been completely stalled for 30+ days solely due to Verizon's non-response
- My property sits inside the construction zone — this affects me every single day
- Hundreds of motorists face ongoing daily delays
- Families dropping off and picking up children at the nearby elementary school must navigate this construction zone every morning and afternoon
- Shawnee County cannot move this public project forward until Verizon acts
I have already filed a formal complaint with the Kansas Corporation Commission and have contacted Verizon executive leadership. I am posting here in hopes that a Verizon agent can escalate this to the appropriate Outside Plant Engineering or Network Construction team immediately.
What I am asking for:
- Assign a Verizon project manager to respond to Bettis Contracting's relocation request
- Provide a timeline for completing the fiber line relocation
- Confirm this has been escalated to the regional team responsible for Shawnee County, KS
This is a public infrastructure project affecting a school, a neighborhood, and thousands of daily commuters. Please help get this moving.
