Answering calls on a locked screen

Question

When my screen is locked and I get a call I can answer it but the screen goes dark and the caller can't hear me until I unlock it, swipe down and hit answer again.  Most of the time the caller hangs up thinking the call didn't go through.  It didn't always used to be this way.  I have a moto g stylus  5G, Android version 15

It's still concerning because your screen shouldn't go dark when you swipe to answer an incoming call while the screen is locked and the phone doesn't actually pick up the call until you unlock the screen and answer the phone again.  Do you have a screen protector on the phone?  If so, try removing it to see if that helps.  I used to have a cheapie screen protector on my Samsung, and it was completely messing with the proximity sensor to where the phone screen would shut off and not come back on during calls, or else the screen would shut itself off while I was trying to use the phone.

If you don't have a screen protector on the phone, then my guess is there's a hardware issue.
