If you are on an old service plan not available to incoming customers, then you cannot get any promotions from Verizon without changing your service plan to something current. But maybe you can get some kind of financing set up if you buy the phone directly from Apple? Make sure they don't mess with your service plan where they try to put you on a Verizon contract with a new Verizon phone, because the large phone manufacturers often have similar/same deals as the carriers.
