Badge recipients

I just noticed that if you click on a badge you've received in your profile, it will also show a number of other members who've attained the same badge. Some members unfortunately have their entire email address or their phone number for a forum username, which means that anyone could potentially "curious click" on a badge in their profile and view any random number of other people's personal contact information.

With there being so many forum members, the easiest fix would be to not display other members who have won the same badge.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! 😥 There are so many different badges too. I'm surprised that so many people still manage to get their personal info displayed as a username, despite the forum software asking for a username to be created. What if some of the easier to get badges were deleted?

We will not be eliminating any badges. I'll just keep going through them and changing them.

Is there something which could be introduced into the forum software to prompt members to change their username if they are currently using an email address or phone number for a username? Maybe even a wildcard search for any usernames with "@" included or a string of 10 consecutive numerals, where it flags those accounts and emails them.

There's a wild card that stops people from making their username an email. It stops all future users, but not past. These are all past users that you are seeing. There's nothing that can be done about numbers.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking these were all newbies who somehow didn't create a username. Still feel bad for you with having to go through all the badges and edit so many old accounts.

With the updates to the leaderboards where they now go out to 30 places if you click/tap on the link to show the full leaderboard for a day/week/etc., the "email address for a username" problem has cropped up there too, on some of the full leaderboards. 😟

One thing I've noticed is the Khoros forums used to show 3.3 million members just before the shutdown in November 2025. When the Vanilla forums came up in December 2025 (?) or early January - can't remember exactly when it switched over, but it was still read-only until end of January 2026 for the bulk of the forums - the main page said there were 5.8 million members and still does. It's as if a bunch of forum accounts were duplicated? There are old threads buried wherever which if you dig them up, the usernames often show "unknown". Wondering if there's a glitch with a lot of usernames not transferring over from Khoros and causing the persistent email address displays for existing forum accounts, since none of the accounts I've reported are from newbies.

I have not found any duplicates. According to Nilsa, we're a close to 6.

I so feel your pain. I remember reporting those to moderation left and right when I was much more active in the community. I wonder if it would help if there was a way to report the user profile to the moderation team if we ever found a user with issue on their profile page including the username being either their email address or phone number.
