IPhone users trying to text me get undeliverable after visiting Verizon store.

I recently visited a Verizon store to upgrade my phone. I returned the new phone the same day.

After the store rep reactivated my original phone, my contacts with iPhones are getting undeliverable messages when trying to send me texts.

I am using Next SMS and have been for years without an issue.

I went to two different stores and no one has a clue how to resolve this.

My company uses Next SMS across the board without an issue. It doesn't support RCS and has not been a problem since after I decided not to trade in my device.

I need this resolved asap please as it impacts my ability to work.

(Changing to Google Messages is not an option.)

I'd check that your default texting app is Next SMS. It's possible that when you had the new phone, RCS got turned on with it, as RCS is the newer texting format and is at least temporarily causing a conflict with the return to the old phone. I found this on Google for how to deregister your number from RCS. Because you don't have the phone which was returned anymore and you also don't want to turn on Google Messages, try the "without your device" method on a PC, so it doesn't involve your phone at all.

Key Ways to Deregister RCS:

Using Your Old Device: Open the Google Messages app, go to Settings > RCS chats (or "Chat features"), and toggle it off.

Without Your Device (Online Tool): Go to messages.google.com/disable-chat, enter your phone number, and enter the verification code received via SMS.

Samsung Messages: Go to Settings > RCS chats and turn the toggle off.

Important Notes:

Temporary Issues: If you don't turn off RCS before swapping to a new phone, you may face message delivery issues for a few days.

Carrier Specifics: If your RCS is handled by your carrier rather than Google, the online form may not work.

Group Chat Impact: Turning off RCS may remove you from existing RCS group chats.

Verification Codes: If you cannot receive the verification code because you lost your phone/number, it may be difficult to deregister through the online portal.

If deregistering your number from RCS still doesn't do the trick, then it is something with the provisioning of your texts on Verizon's side.

From what you're describing, I'm assuming this is a business line. If your line is being handled by your employer, I would have your IT department contact Verizon's Business Support concerning your texting issue with the change back to your old phone. If you are self-employed and this line is a business account of your own, you will need to contact Business Support as business accounts and personal accounts are 2 separate parts of the company.
