I keep getting unwanted calls with no one on the other end. I block them after they come in but they continue with other numbers. Any idea how to control and stop this??? Its beyond annoying.
Is this a landline? Back when I still had a landline, those types of calls would come in daily. It's bots doing the calls with spoofed numbers and the bot either isn't automatically going to whatever spiel it's supposed to do, or isn't connecting you with some live spammer. The spammers running these schemes change the spoofed number every few days to avoid being caught, which is why blocking one of the numbers doesn't work. For landlines, one solution is to get a phone system with an automated attendant.
For a mobile line, if Verizon Call Filter isn't doing the trick, would suggest a 3rd party app. As a last resort, you can set your phone to block all calls not from anyone on your contacts, but that's going to cause you to miss legitimate calls from businesses such as doctors' offices, who often use an automated system for reminder calls and such.
You're welcome. I saw your other thread, and you were saying it's a Fios Digital Voice landline in the other thread. Found this on Verizon's website regarding Call Filter for Fios Digital Voice and some other information on how to cut down on robocalls/spam calls:
Stop Unwanted & Annoying Home Phone Calls | Verizon Support
Note that bad actors will completely ignore the Do Not Call list, sadly.
The best way I've found to stop unwanted calls on landline type service (Fios, wireless home phone, VoIP) anything that uses a standard old phone is to get a cordless phone system with a good smart call blocker. I have one and screen my calls, which means if someone isn't on my call or star (safe) list they have to listen to an auto attendant give them instructions as to how to get through. Robo calls can't do it, almost all spam callers will hang up when they hit the auto attendant. Get one will a directory and plenty of room in the star list. Mine has 50 in the directory and 10 for the star list and I wish there were more. The difference between a directory (where you put your friends and family or frequent numbers) is the star list is based on caller name as most business have more than one number they call you on. Anyway, I went from many unwanted calls a day to next to none in a month. Hope this helps some
Thank you. What a pain this is.
I’m on that list. Nothing seems to work. I called Verizon and someone is supposed to call me tomorrow. I’m not optimistic!!
One other forum member with a Fios Digital Voice landline reported the same thing. They got a business version phone system with an auto attendant, but it's the same principle. The robocalls can't get through because they won't "get" the auto attendant's process, which for me at least was the vast majority of junk calls I used to get when I had a landline. Human spammers most likely hang up because they'd rather find an easier mark.
Thank you.
