Data Bandwidth Being Throttled

I have monitored the Data Bandwidth since 03/28 and noted that between the hours of 12:00am and 06:00am bandwidth is 1.5mbps to 2.0mbps. After that I also noted that the bandwidth drops to appx .08mbps. These tests have been on at least 3 other phones with the same results in the Phoenix, AZ area. Is anyone else experiencing this?

There is no need to believe that 505mb will be considered "bandwidth hogging". Wildman gave you the accurate answer in the 2nd post of this thread.

You may continue to treat this experience as a conspiracy, if you wish. Obviously, you are disregarding the correct explanations offered in the various responses here. It is your time and effort to waste.

To be honest I would think this is related to network traffic load, I would figure that during the night hours traffic would be lighter because more users are most likely resting and then around 6am the average users work day will start and the network will get hammered with everyone checking emails, appointment and conference calling.

There were news releases sometime back that said if Verizon did any throttling, it would only affect those in the top (whatever) % of bandwidth usage and not a blanket throttling of everyone.

I had read that article or similar to it. I find it hard to believe that the use of 505mbs this month and previous months would be classified aa a hog though. I have never went over 1gb month use in 7yrs.

I averaged over 10GB each month for 24 months, some months I was as high as 19GB usage. I never saw any data throttling.

I had a job where we sat around on call 14 hours a day in a remote area. So I would watch videos on Hulu etc and listen to streaming music for most of the shift. I never even got a notice about my data usage or had any Customer Service people mention it. I even had an issue durring this time frame where the Customer Relations Vice President gave me a $100 device credit. When it came time for renewing my contract this past July, they begged me 3-4 times a week to renew.

So I think it's safe to say that VZW does not throttle data usage.

Fortunately I had access to electrical outlets, but yes I did drain a battery very quickly when on battery power. I can certainly attest to how hot a phone can physically get and still function. I had a friend who had AT&T and they would throttle him about a week into the billing cycle on his "unlimited" plan. He switched to VZW after a couple months of it.

I registered just to tell you all that I'm posting this from my phone which is currently capped at 10kBps. Kilo. Byte. Awesome. It would take me a minute and 42 seconds to fill up a floppy disc. Yep.

The best part is I'm paying 30 dollars a month for unlimited data. They might as well add more tiers for people that use their data plans if they want more money.

The only way you would be capped at 10k is either violation of TOS or roaming on another carriers tower.

I'll believe 10kb when I see an unedited screenshot of speedtest.

Well it took me a while but here's a screenshot. I was at this speed for less than an hour, and once again after work when I suppose there is the most data usage on the network- but there is some kind control going on. I didn't even flip the screen.. it's original. So is the image format.

Just because you are at this speed doesn't mean that Verizon is doing anything to cause this kind of speed.

MANY factors can have a hand in the speed of your data connection which do not have anything to do with Verizon. Weather, distance from the nearest tower, buildings, data traffic, topography of the land around you. ALL of these can cause an impact on the speed of your data stream because your data stream must go through all of these to actually get to your phone.

Additionally, you say that you were not at this speed for very long, which bolsters this argument. If Verizon is going to throttle you, they you will be throttled, they are not going to throttle, unthrottle, throttle, unthrottle, etc...
