Frequent disconnects from 4g and Mobile Hotspot

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and i have been using it with the Thunderbolt to get on the internet. I can ususally surf for about 20-40 minutes and then it drops off and i have to go in and turn mobile hotspot off and on again and then it comes on for about 10-20 minutes. It seems to be that the mobile hotspot functionality is either not working well or the LTE service is flakey. I am not sure which it is. In the mobile hotespot, i get, "No mobile network" when the internet stops functioning. I really hope there is a resolution to this soon as i purchased this phone in order to get the 4G service.

I have the mobile hotspot promo that came with the Thunderbolt. It is listed in my plan. It does work. It's just intermittent. I am performing a test this morning. I have the Thunderbolt connected to a windows machine through USB tethering and then i am sharing the connection to my Mac. The objecto f this test is to see if it stays connected when i am not using mobile hotspot. If it doesn't then there is a high likelyhood that the problem is the network. If it does then the mobile hotspot has issues. Just for a point of reference... I get about -69 to -75 LTE signal where i am currently located.

Your signal is great. I will also be interested to see if the disconnect is the hotspot or also occurs when using data on the device.

For a while the Incredible had this issue. But I have not had it for a long while now.

Exchanged the Thunderbolt for another one. We will see if it was just my device. If it continues then i will have to do some more troubleshooting. Another thought is that it could be something about the wireless stack on the Mac interacting with the Thunderbolt. I will wait to see what happens.

I am still having issues with the mobile hotspot and connecting.. I will never lose connection but the internet stops working.. everything says connected but its not. if i turn the hotspot off and back on it starts working again.

And thats 1 labtop trying to use the hotspot while not doing anything on the phone.. the speeds are nice but the product just is too expensive for me to even try to troubleshoot.. its nice but i know past may 15th i won't have it :smileyhappy:

I had issues this morning with it disconnecting. I brought it to the Verizon store for exchange and i haven't had an issue for about an hour now. I think it might have been the phone. Only time will tell.

It definitely could be the LTE network being this new with the cell phones. I don't have direct knowledge if the BB cards have the same issue after being connected long term. Weird that it only happens while it's broadcasting the wifi signal though. My Tbolt had a similar issue paired up to my wifi ipad at home last night. I didn't think anything of it, but the connection stopped working on the ipad and I just disabled and reenabled and started working ok. Same thing with still showing a connected device. I haven't done further testing besides that. Wonder if it could be something in the hotspot settings. Keep us updated in your happenings.

Here is my theory... The ping timeouts that i am getting are terrible. I think what may be happening is that the mobile hotspot detects that the connection is not that stable and tries to switch over to 3g. For some reason the switch doesn not happen and it just disconnects. This is all just theory from observation. I can tell you when going into the super secret *#*#4636#*#* menu and forcing 4g it seemed to stay up a lot longer. hmmm. I really think it comes down to issues on the LTE network in this area that are causing the mobile hotspot to react. Still researching though..

Definitely having the same issue here and its quite frustrating. 4g connection on the phone works great and I get amazing speeds, but as soon as I turn on the hotspot feature it starts sketching out. When watching the phone screen, I can see that the 4g connection keeps dropping and reconnecting, therefore forcing the hotspot feature to keep resetting. I am using a MacBook Pro to connect, however it does the same thing even when no clients are trying to connect.

Just really blows because I upgraded to the Thunderbolt from the Incredible to enjoy some faster speeds while travelling for business. Now I am basically stuck with no connection and its causing me issues trying to get some work done. Should have just left everything alone because the hotspot featured worked fantastic on my Incredible. Meeh.

Was using it a little bit more last night. Didn't run into the issue again with the connection dropping, which is good. Unfortunately, I can get anywhere from 20-25 Mbps on avg from the Tbolt itself, but when I run the same speedtest app on my iPad, I can't jump above 10. Still a lot faster than 3G, but does seem like something is going on that is affecting the hotspot.

HTC Thunderbolt: Frequent disconnects from Verizon 4G while using Mobile Hotspot

I bought an HTC Thunderbolt 24 hours ago, I decided to swap out my MyFi 2200 which was dropping signal here and there and this phone could simply replace it with a 4G Hotspot mode which also steps down to 3G when needed. Since this was my primary reason to buy it, I was quick to find out about the frequent disconnects from 4G and Mobile Hotspot mode.

Ok, the HTC Thunderbolt is fantastic, long have I lived with EVO envy.... Finally, I have something better, so I thought...

At first I thought it was possibly my location, downtown financial district of San Francisco is a tough place for the competition to server up even 3G, building attenuation, lack of towers in the right places and so on. With that thought I went across town to multiple areas with full signal and notice I had the same problem.

I tried setting it to 4G LTE only with the super secret diagnostic and options *#*#4636#*#* menu, while it did stay connected a bit longer, it still recycled, dropped and reconnected, after 30-60 seconds and sometimes minutes, not with exact frequency but regularly enough to make the data mode almost useless for a hotspot.

So many apps struggle to recover from whacky connectivity that it actually increases my frustration to all new levels, almost as frustrating as AT&T dropped voice calls, but not quite.

This is clearly an issue with the new HTC Thunderbolt, in my humble opinion it's during a step down at reduction or loss of 4G signal, however the error recovery process fails and the phone goes stupid, sometimes requiring a total reboot. Locked in 4G LTE only mode, it drops and sometimes recovers and eventually it requires a reboot.

I wondered why the phone had a new shutdown option called "Restart", which says "closes all apps and restarts the phone".

Just like the good ole days of Microsoft.... I am glad I dropped nearly a cool grand on this phone and accessories since I didn't want to extend my contract, I am even happier that I swapped out my MyFi 2200 3G Hotspot, it was far more reliable then the Thunderbolt Hotspot and now I have a non-operational MyFI 2200.

HTC, why are you beta testing on us with this? I have a friend in QA there, I should call him and find out if this was a known/logged bug and they let it ship since they slipped on the original date...

The LTE 4g network is complete garbage. I'm seeing the same disconnects from LTE constantly smack down in downtown cincinnati, where you would think that there should be decent coverage and low network useage. But unfortunately I get constant disconnects from LTE4g repeatedely and almost every 20-30 seconds.

This only happens mid-day, in the morning it's fine as it stays on 4g the entire time and speeds are good, but when it does, the phone is basicaly unuseable.

What happens when the 4g signal dies it's horrible death, it kicks off and tries 3g. During this time the phone has NO data connection as it's connecting to the different network. Then it tries to reconnect to the 4g network and it again, looses network connection as it switches networks. Again, NO data connection. This is constant and it happens all day to the point where this phone is totally USELESS if you are in an area experiencing it. My OG droid, in the same location worked better as even though the 3g data it received was slow, atleast it was constant. This is much worse.

Verizon needs to fix their LTE network because right now it's not worth any extra $$$ where I live and I won't be paying for it in this state.

Verizon... I am a new customer and within the return period. Please, provide a solution or I wil cancel my service before the trial period ends.

Same here since I initially recd the device on 03/18 (phoenix,az). Spoke with Verizon this morning and there is a 4G outage, I cannot even get 3G at the moment

I am also getting disconnects in San Diego, I tried the last few days and this morning and I am still getting disconnected. Any ideas? Tier 2 of Verizon Support was not help yesterday.

just got my new phone yesterday, tried the hotspot but cant use it the phone goes crazy and the lte goes on and off and it messes up the data on the phone too, on the coverage map my location is dark red for solid 4g coverage but my phone has 0 to 2 bars most of the time and phone switches to 3g 30% of the time i am not very happy with this verizon service, just came from sprint thought they was bad, i sure hope they are fixing the problem, so verizon do i get a discount for my troubles?

My Thunderbolt was working perfectly since launch day here in LA. No dropped 4G service that I could see, and I was connected to the MHS for 8 hours a day all week. Then, on Friday, around the late morning it started dropping 4G over and over again, but only when connected to the MHS. Data Roaming has always been on, and the service has always been set to Automatic.

This is clearly a Network configuration issue, and I'm going to try the suggestions of unclicking the Data Roaming option and selecting Home only on Monday. I have til next Friday to return the Thunderbolt.

No data at all on my HTC Thunderbolt. With the other issues I've had with it, Calendar Exchange not syncing and bluetooth volume, this phone is completly useless.

Well, I started the day with a quick disconnect/reconnection, then I switched to Home only and unchecked data roaming. After a speedtest showed a slowdown I switched back to Automatic but left data roaming off. No observable disconnects the rest of the day.

I have had the Thunderbolt since the day it came out. I use the mobile hotspot as my internet connection as we live in a small town that does not offer internet packages other than Hughes network which is a joke. I never had an issue with my Palm Pre Plus hotspot, both my boyfriend and I have been able to connect at the same time from the one phone; I had the 5g plan, which I am hoping will be available with the Thunderbolt., with the Thunderbolt however, the internet is basically unusable when more than one person is using the hotspot. Does anyone know if this is a phone issue? If so, I will have to return my phone even though I love it.

sorry to hear about your issue with the hotspot frequently disconnecting. May I ask what software version do you have on your Thunderbolt? There has been a recent software update that resolves a variety of symptoms. The OTA (over the air) rollout of the software update will begin as of 5/3. Once you have completed the software upgrade, may I have you retry the service over the next couple of days to confirm that the hotspot is working better. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure if I am checking the right place or not, I am not to swift with these types of things, but I believe it is version 2.2.1, my software number says 1.12.605.6. I did check to see if there are any software updates and there are none as of yet. Also, if you could tell me, do you know what the hotspot package include? I had the 5g package for hotspot before, but the verizon sales person didn't know, but thought the highest would be 2g. Everyone in my home, 5 people each have the hotspot package of 5g on their phone and with using it as the only internet we have, I would always be over the 2g.

Suffering the same problems described here from June through now (3 months now) . Mobile Hotspot on ThunderBolt will not stay connected to Verizon 4G LTE mobile wireless network. I think the longest I've ever stayed connected is about 7 minutes. Device to ThunderBolt is steady but ThunderBolt to Network keeps cycling between connected and "no mobile network". It suffered this when tethering was free and now that I'm paying $20/month extra, it is still happening. I see lots of folks with the issue but no consistent solution. Does not matter what kind of device I WiFi to the ThunderBolt, does not matter what 4G area I'm in... I've tried Seattle, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York City, Chicago (Maui and Portland OR, which are new or about to come on services as well) -same issue where it cannot keep the wireless network connection. If I force to 3G, it works but seems very slow and why did I buy the ThunderBolt if I was willing to settle for 3G? I should have stuck with Sprint, the service was bad there but it was so much cheaper and no limits.

Tried all the purported remedies given out on all the various forums with no improvement (Factory Reset, Hardware Replacement, SIM reformat, latest Verizon Firmware update, etc.) Verizon has been silent on this and HTC claims it's a Verizon issue. Upcoming firmware updates seem to come only a couple of times a year and of course, the promise always is that the next update will fix the issue... which is not being acknowledged is an issue. It would be so cool if someone offered a 4G LTE mobile hotspot that worked -regardless of the cost.

I am still having this problem, and at the Verizon store they tell me they don't know why and to call the customer care line. I pay $100.00 a month to use the hotspot (I have no other choice for internet other than through a phone line, because of my area). I don't even get 4g here (as told by verizon, it will be coming soon, uh sure). Anyway, now verizon says that the extra $100.00 a month is for my internet on the phone AND the hotspot combined. Well, when I have a palm pre plus my package was free internet on the phone and 20.00 extra for the hotspot and my service is WORSE. I plan on going to sprint as well. Verizon said my cancelation cost would be 310.00, which seems alot cheaper than paying for a phone that does connect and you have to watch the limit you use between the phone and hotspot.

I apologize for the issues you been having with your device. I understand you mentioned you updated the latest firmware on your Thunderbolt. However, have you updated to the newest version of 1.70.605.0 released around July 12th? I ask because some Thunderbolt users had issues not receiving this update. Please check your device to see to confirm you have the latest software version. Here is a link on how to obtain the update for your device. susan53024: Does this happen only when 2+ people connect, and what exactly happens--can't connect to any sites?

What I noticed with the hotspot was that using multiple threads of access to the internet (for example, having many tabs open at the same time in my browser) would cause internet connectivity to stop on both the computer and the phone. The 3G/4G icon would still show, but I couldn't access anything.

For me, the solution was to turn off Auto Sync before using the hotspot (Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and Sync, and then uncheck Auto Sync). You might want to give that a try.

Some other solutions include:

(1) Connect to the hotspot using only one computer. Then, if one computer can connect, you can use Connectify (freeware) to turn that one computer into a hotspot. Other computers would access the internet (over WiFi) through that one computer.

(2) Try using a direct USB connection instead of a wireless connection. For me, this made no difference, but it's worth a try.

(3) Cancel the hotspot plan on the TB, and instead go with a dedicated 3G/4G modem+router or mobile hotspot device (e.g., the Novatel or Samsung). My Pantech UML290 plugged into a separate router--though by no means perfect--is much more reliable than using the hotspot feature on the TB. Plus, with this setup, you can connect an external antenna to boost your signal (all devices except the Samsung have an external antenna connector; the Samsung has one, but it's below the battery, which makes it unusable AFAIK). You can do the 5GB plan for $50 or the 10GB plan to $80, and then drop your phone plan to $30 for a combined total of at most $110. (Verizon: the shared data plans would come in very handy for this scenario!)

I must admit DMC, that 3rd solution isn't as cost effective as still using the mobile hotspot on the Thunderbolt (if you were an early adopter that got an unlimited plan).

Here it is October & this is still a problem. I have had the dropping of data connections since I got the phone. During the free period, I figured it might have been some bugs with this being the first phone on the LTE network. But, each new update didn't change the problem. Considering that we are paying for this service, I would like mobile hotspot to work as intended. I have had a replacement SIM card, every little trick with battery pulls & SIM card removal/reinstallation (to reset the network connection), even a replacement phone & a service ticket for the tower in my area. It's been 2 weeks since the ticket was started & I haven't heard back from Verizon Tech Support. Nothing at all. Not a, "We've checked the tower...", no, "We wanted to inform you of our inspection...", nothing. About the only thing left to blame would be the software. I would like to think that if this is a rather widespread issue that VZW would have gotten in touch with HTC about this.

I don't think it's too much to ask for this feature to work. If users of other 4G phones on Verizon are not having this problem, then I think HTC should reimburse VZW for replacing our phones with another brand. HTC posted big profits just recently, so they can afford to do some damage control about this. They have already lost my future business. I don't want Verizon to lose my business either.

I was having the same problem on the Droid Razr's hotspot, so I finicked around with the wifi settings for a while.

The problem was solved when I turned off encryption and left the network open. I enforce what devices can connect by each one's MAC address.

This has been a problem since the day this phone was released and is a source of increasing frustration. What are we paying for by paying for the mobile hotspot? It's on, then off, then on, then off... Maddening. When are Verizon and HTC going to get this thing fixed?

I can confirm that this issue appears to be device-independent. I've reproduced the same problematic pings as others have on just about every Verizon LTE smartphone. I am not rooted and am on the $30/month hotspot unlimited plan.

I've thus far reproduced this on: Thunderbolt, Revolution, DROID BIONIC, DROID RAZR. I have yet to test on DROID CHARGE and Pantech Breakout.

I suspect this issue is related to the Verizon LTE Mobile Hotspot proxy (Modem NAI) and not to the device itself. It appears some accounts are having this problem, but not others. Verizon refuses to confirm the issue, and I've had two trouble tickets closed... one blaming an out of date PRL (which it wasn't), and the second blaming client Wi-Fi devices (despite noting that it occurs on all client devices tested).

Unfortunately, Verizon may be suffering from network congestion issues, and prioritizing LTE hotspot traffic (since it is unlimited, and not on the handset), at the lowest network priority. That would explain the issue possibly (and I do underscore possibly) being only in areas that are congested.

This issue has been well documented by tech sites outside of Verizon. The issue is with their SIM cards used for authenticating the devices on the Verizon network. The authentication keeps dropping causing the connection to drop and/or go dormant. Verizon has been made aware of this issue but hasn't done enough (if anything) to fix it. Verizon customers affected by this issue have begun to lodge complaints online, with the Better Business Bureau. Verizon isn't correcting the problem but they have no issue holding us to our 2 year plans at $x.xx dollars a month for a service that is simply awful. Lodge your complaints and spread the word. It's the only way to get Verizon to start taking ownership for their problem.

This is driving me absolutely crazy - I can't believe I signed up to pay $20 a month for this service! Once in blue moon, I actually stay connected for an hour or two but most of the time, I can barely stay on longer than 30 minutes (if I'm lucky) before having to restart the phone/do a battery pull/something that doesn't involve throwing my phone out the window in frustration.

(I have a Samsung Stratosphere, by the way)

I have the htc rezound and am having the same issues with my hotspot loosing connection. It will stay on for about 15 min. then it is on and off for about 15 seconds at a time. Really is annoying and pisses me off. I have been on phone with tech support and with htc tech support to no avail. No one wants to own up to this problem and or wants to do anything about it. I have tried every conceivable thing I can think of to try and troubleshoot this myself and am totally puzzulled. It needs to be corrected as they are charging us for something we are not getting and that's just not right. I don't know what else to do but to keep complaining about it to them. I had read in another forum that it has something to do with cdma and the way it connects itself to the network. All I do know for sure is it needs fixed!!!

I had no idea this problem was so big. I've also been having this issue and have called tech support several times and they act as though it's only me having this issue. Well, they at least never told me that it's a common issue and they are working on a fix. The thing is they know they have most of us weather we like it or not; because we dont have another option. At least thats the case for me.

I have a Samsung charge and the 30 dollar unlimited data plan on my phone and mobile hotspot. I pay 60 dollars a month for internet that is garbage most the time. (wish i lived where i could have cable again when i paid 40 a month for unlimited 30Mb down and 10 Mb up and never slowed me down or lost connection, man i miss cable :'( ) I have to reload youtube over and over during videos because it just stops downloading them. even though i'm still online according to my phone and PC. When it disconnects i just have to wait for a minute, (give or take) and it comes back. Sometimes in a few seconds its back, but it never resumes the youtube download, so i have to refresh the page. Very frustrating paying so much for such bad service. Hate that verizon takes 200 dollars a month from me, I bet they laugh all the way to the bank though.

BTW i'm not even using 4g because it's not in my area, this is all on 3g. I guess the only thing that makes me feel better about all this is knowing now i'm not the only one. Let's see i paid 300 for my phone and 200 a month for my service, thats 2300 dollars i've given verizon and they can't even be honest with me about their service having bugs.

YOU COULD AT LEAST BE HONEST WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS VERIZON AND TELL US THE TRUTH RATHER THAN STEAL OUR MONEY AND SPIT IN OUR FACES!!!! I'm actually not even mad really, i'm used to mega corporations screwing me over. it's what they seem to do best these days.

Well I was mad! After I thought about the millions of Verizon customers

and the billions of dollars Verizon is making, I filed a complaint with the

Better Business Bureau. I have no problem with my phone service itself but

for the money I'm paying for a data package and a mobile hotspot, I expect

either consistent high quality or I expect the problem to be acknowledged

honestly, addressed, and a solution found.

I KNOW THE FIX!!!! AT LEAST IT WORKED FOR ME AND I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING. I'VE USED NEW PHONES, RESET MY PHONE, GOT A NEW SIM CARD, TALKED TO TECH SUPPORT OVER AND OVER TRYING TO FIX IT...THEN FINALLY TONIGHT I MUST OF GOT SOMEONE WITH SOME SENSE BECAUSE SHE WAS WAS CONFIDENT SHE KNEW THE FIX, AND IT TURNS OUT SHE WAS RIGHT.

i HOPE YOU GUYS ARE READY FOR THIS BECAUSE YOU AREN'T GOING TO BELIEVE HOW EASY THE FIX IS. i'M SURE YOU ALL ARE USING THE DEFAULT NAME GIVEN FOR YOUR NETWORK, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS CHANGE THE NAME OF YOUR NETWORK. SHE DIDN'T SPECIFY WEATHER A CERTAIN NAME IS IMPORTANT BUT I JUST CHANGED MINE TO MYNETWORK. THIS SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THAT THE FIX COULD BE SO EASY BUT IT WORKS!!! BEFORE I GOT KICKED CONSTANTLY WHEN I WAS ON BY MYSELF, NOW MY MOTHER AND I BOTH CAN SURF THE WEB WITH NO PROBLEMS. I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD TO GET IT TO DISCONNECT AND IT STAYED STRONG THE WHOLE TIME.

SHE ALSO TOLD ME TO MAKE SURE IT'S ON WPA2 SECURITY AND THE REST SHOULD BE DEFAULT. THIS IS ALL ON A DROID CHARGE SO IF IT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU THEN IT MIGHT BE ANOTHER PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING. I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE BECAUSE I KNOW THE PAIN OF PUTTING UP WITH THIS ISSUE.

I have had the same problem with my Thunderbolt for the last few days. The hotspot service was fine for the first week or so... I tried new SIM cards, reprogramming, changed network names and a half dozen calls to VZW. I'm in training this week with the NEED for the service, and again, VZW has let me down. Very disappointing. I think VZW launched 4G a year before it was ready. And somehow, they see fit to charge for it! I am 1year into a 2 year contract and can't wait to get back to Sprint. While the coverage wasn't quite as good, the service works as advertised and the vendor doesn't deceive their customers.

This is a known issue with the Thunderbolt. It is well documented - but not by Verizon who act like they've never heard of it before.

The phone gets a rock solid 4G signal on the handset itself but when you turn on the hotspot you're lucky if you get 10-15 minutes of solid surfing. The connection between the TB and the computer is fine. Its the data connection with the TB that suddenly stops working. Its very frustrating. When I tether with the USB cable instead of mobile hotspot (that I pay for) I can surf for hours without issue. Once I activate the hotspot, the phone goes into stupid mode. Here's what I did:

Swapped the SIM card at Verizon - Nothing Resolved

Master Reset (wiping entire phone and beginning for scratch) - Nothing Resolved

Enabling Roaming Data - Nothing Resolved

Changing WiFi Channels - Nothing Resolved

Current Software 2.11.605.9

HTC Sense version: 2.1

If you google this problem you will find many more with this problem. If anyone knows a solution I may have missed, please post it! Its frustrating to pay for a service you can't use. The only reason I don't cancel is because I don't want to lose my grandfathered unlimited data. I acquired the phone second hand so Verizon won't help me.

Ok roc, try this. Give your network a name, dont use default. Also make sure you are using wpa2 security. Once you connect to your pc dont save the connection. And remember to never save it. Always connect manually and when you are done using the internet disconnect it. I dont know why but it helped me stop losing connection as much. It still drops time to time but i can go for a long time without a drop. Anyway just try changing the network name and never save the connection. And always disconnect once you are done.

Can you explain what you mean by changing your network name? Are you talking about the SSID? If so - that has absolutely nothing to do with this issue. I change my SSID routinely and that has no effect on how the hotspot feature behaves. If you meant something else, please elaborate so I can try it.

well this method might work for some of you guys with the connection drop out problem or it mite not but its working for me right now and i passed the 10 minute mark where it usually drops off connection when using hot spot . First i went into the power settings of the phone and took off both power saving options (i think that has alot to do with the connection cutting off probably because hotspot uses alot of battery.. even while charging) then since im in a 3g area i went into settings then wireless networks and under mobile settings i changed the network mode to cdma only . then i went into display setting and made the screen never turn off . so far its been 20 minutes but im extremely happy it got this far already lol try it out

I think its a Verizon problem no matter your location. I'm in St. Louis and have a good 4g signal but can't stay on hotspot for more thanh then 15 mins. without having to refresh my connection. Even though Verizon charges a lot for the hotspot service, I think they do things to slow it down so people don't stay onfor long periods ot time. Verizon isnot very customer friendll anymore, I have been waiting for ICS For a year now. Verizon just wants me to buy anew phone. ThunderBolt owner

This is a temporary solution, I had a customer service rep tell me the same thing and it worked for a while. What I am assuming by this fix is that Verizon monsters usage by network name and slows or breaks up the signal to interfere with the data stream. Verizon does monitor these forums, hence the few censorship deletions you find, and they chose not to find a solution to the problem. One question I have is, does anyone have this problem that does not have unlimited data in their plan?

I have the exact same issue with my pantech breakout on both my laptop and my ipad. It is rediculous.

I really dont think this is a network problem. It is a software problem with the OS/WifiHotspot app.

1. When running the wifi hotspot in an AWESOME 4G coverage area, I cannot keep 50% of the pings going, and 4G flaps (toggles on and off) over and over and over.... Once I kill that app, 4G sticks on. When it is flapping, the data on my phone also dies, so it is truly dropping from the tower/network... BUT....

2. Just hooked my laptop up and turned on hardware USB tethering. 100% rock solid, no packet loss, 4G all the way.

This is a total PITA, but at least I am back online for now. Anyone???

I have been having issues as well with the mobile hotspot not working very well or at all and my 4G signal seems to drop off a lot. I'm in Minneapolis, MN. I have tried turning the hotspot on and off, restarting the phone etc. and nothing seems to work. I'm lucky if I can load one web page at all.

I'm due for an upgrade, but this does not appear to be tied to the Thunderbolt as I have seen this issue on other threads.

Verizon, can you offer any solution?
