Been stuck on 1X...... Wouldn't it be nice if when the new G network is experiencing problems the phone fell back to 3G instead of all the way back to 1X Why????
Closing thread because 4G service is back
I've been stuck on 1x since I woke up at 4:30AM. I'm just hoping it's a network thing because I"m on my 2nd Thunderbolt already.
yeah, I've been stuck on 1X this morning too and I don't even have 4G in my area yet. Might be an issue with eHPRD. Guess I'll try ##778 and switch rev A to enabled to see if that does anything.
I have been on 1x all morning too. Between my phone jumping from 3G/ to 4G lately (in places I got all bars of 4G on the first couple of weeks), and now this 1x It's really getting annoying.
This is not just on the thunderbolt. Also have the VL600 4G modem with the same problem this AM. Not sure why or when it is going to be corrected.
yup. Looks like it's an eHPRD issue. Enabling Rev A got 3G back. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-thunderbolt/72724-problems-3g-data-dont-hard-reset-read-first.html
If you "force" it to connect to 3G how will you know if the 4G network is back up? Ya can't count on Verizon stepping up and notifying us, except when it comes to notifying you your bill is ready
Washington D.C. here. Stuck on 1X with very brief 4G connections.
Does anyone know of a 4G status dashboard anywhere? Kind of like what Google has here (http://www.google.com/appsstatus#hl=en)?
Also stuck on 1X in Central NJ and even in NYC.
Verizon twitter finally acknowledges the problem.
VerizonWireless Verizon Wireless We're aware of an issue with #4G #LTE connections & our network engineers are working to resolve quickly. Will update here.3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
Maybe they'll get it fixed "SOON" (ha ha)
Same issue, i have restarted my phone 3 times over the last hour... thank god it's a network issue and not a phone issue, was not looking forward to go to a store after work to ask what was wrong with my phone. I am in Atlanta GA and stuck on 1X the last 2 hours
Same here.
Princetone to Middlesex. only 1X connection.
I tried the Rev A 3G enabled option and it didn't work for me... in Minneapolis, MN
Even after a reboot? Did you make sure to hit the menu button and Commit Changes?
Yes.. I committed the change and rebooted, but still only 1x connection. I also double checked this after the reboot to ensure that Rev A setting was in fact still enabled.
seems to be complete data outage here in Sarasota FL. Resettiung to REV A did not help. I am not even getting 1X most of the time.
I'm still completely out in Atlanta.
I'm stuck on 1x in San Diego. This hasn't happened to me before, and the 4G LTE is new, so a little lee way to Verizon. But it would have been nice if they notified us that it is a service problem so that I didn't spend time trying to figure out if something had gone wrong with the phone, or have to come to the forums to find out the info.
Stuck with 1x since 4 am this morning in LA. I was trying to figure out the root cause..rebooting, reenabling radio etc. Nothing worked
Thank god I visited this forum!
The 4G network problem has also effected their 3G network. Spoke to Verizon this morning. Using 4G aircard (LG VL600) on desktop. Where we live 4G isn't available so obviously we have to use the 3G network. Verizon told me to try to connect every hour. It has something to do with a 4G network update. We live in Southern Illinois approximately 90 miles southeast of St Louis.
There is a way to do it but you need to be comfortable making the change on your phone to get to 3G. There is a setting in the manual settings to get the phone to go to 3G and not drop down to 1X due to a 4G setting that also applies and makes it go down to 1X. The link has good info but it is not 100% accurate in how to do it: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-thunderbolt/72724-problems-3g-data-dont-hard-reset-read-first.html I did this on my Thunderbolt and am now on 3G.

The 4G network is separate from the 3G network. Once 4G is back on phone should pick up 4G service. Also, I would expect VzW to re-tweet once service is restored, so you could set the setting back.
If you call customer service, they are trained to say "our network is currently being updated we apologize for the inconvenience and should be back up shortly" which means "our network is down unexpectedly and there is no ETA as of yet."... even if they had a scheduled system update or outage... they would never advertise it...
I'm out since this morning too. Thought it was because I popped it down to 3G yesterday to save some battery life.
Been out all day here also, near Detroit.
Wo! had 3G for about 40 seconds! and now it's gone!
Try this.......I lost my 3G early this morning and I got back by doing this...

I agree a little leeway is in order. I know out here on the East Coast there have been all kinds of tornados, microbursts, flooding, etc.. so I can totally see if there is an issue.
But I"m curious.. They tweeted it.. and it's here on the forums.. How exactly did you expect them to notify us? Send a text message to every phone effected? Send you an email? Umm.. If the network is having issues, why flood it with unnecessary notifications? I'd rather they save the bandwidth that's available and just fix the problem.
You may also need to perform the following adjustment if the ##778# didn't work all by itself...
Dial *#*#4636#*#* then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)... this setting is located in the 'phone information' tab.
vargo911 wrote: Try this.......I lost my 3G early this morning and I got back by doing this... Go to the ThunderBolt’s phone dialer. Enter ##778# and hit Send. You’ll get a pop-up labeled EPST, with the choice to “View Mode” or “Edit Mode.” You want “Edit Mode.”You’ll be asked for a password. It’s 000000.Now flip down to “Modem Settings,” and then choose “Rev. A.”Change the setting from eHRPD to “Enable,” hit OK, then press the Menu button on the phone and tap “Commit Modifications.”
How do you reverse the process to go back to 4G once it's restored?
4G and data are out and have been out since around 2 am this morning. It's out for the whole nation with no date or time as to when it might be back on line. Nice that Verizon can't send a text message when there is a problem, yet they can text you to buy a phone or pay your bill . Great time to buy a 4 G phone with no data or 4G service
Glad to see I am not crazy or it's my phone.
I have noticed I have been at 1X since this morning. I've ocassionally had to restart when switching from 3G to 4G
While you're waiting for your 3G's and/or 4G's to return, here is a pretty good in-depth review of the Thunderbolt.
Same here in Maine......called them today it is a widespread problem
Man these speeds are BLAZING FAST!
1X-only with eHRPD enabled
3G fix with Rev A enabled
LTE at the beach last weekend
Called at 2pm cst. CSR said it should be about another 12 hours or so in chicago. He also said it isnt a guarantee **big surprise**
Will continue to walk in circles until my gps comes back up to tell me where to go....
Does anyone else feel totally lost without decent data speeds on their phone? How in the world did our parents live?!?!
I surely hope they are planning on crediting our accounts for this service outage I am still trying to understand how you can have a nation wide outage on any service that is ridiculous and irresponsible they boast 217.000 THunder Bolts sold that's a lot of credit being issued.
I'm guessing they were updating centralized hardware or software somewhere in anticipation of the Droid Charge launch tomorrow. Isn't going to look good launching a phone that can't be activated due to an outage. lol
lol i'm on my 3rd
So When the $ G comes back on it's going to be 10meg down and at least 5 meg up or Higher if they can do that then they can keep my credit I understand it went down at 0100am and if it wraps around then that will be a 2 day credit come on verizon we're pulling for you and I bragged so hard on you all just Sunday Laughing at the speed of Sprint EVO and my brother in-law and sister are still texting me are you 4 G yet every hour on the hour. their Face Booking me showing my phone on crutches Come on Verizon Techs you can win.
Anybody get the 3G service yet? I have been on 1X all day. Even that has been intermittent. I am hoping somebody in the forums will let us know when the network has been fixed.
marty, please read the entire thread. you aren't going to get 3G on your Thunderbolt until this problem is fixed. That is, unless you do some manual steps (also outlined in this thread).
But yes, I'm sure many people will post here when it's restored.

In-depth is putting it mildly! He got right inside that phone. Four antennas?! Who knew!
But the dang thing is STILL on 1X. The 3G fix lasted only about 20 minutes.

LOL... Thank goodness my horse knew the way home.
Update in Chicago:
My phone says 3g at the moment, but the other TB in the house goes in and out...
Called Verizon and they said that service is still down due to the massive weather the whole nation has been having. (lets keep the south in our prayers)
There is no ETA on the fix and in fact the CSR asked what my indicator said before she answered my question to the service being fixed...this leads me to believe they are not keeping their people as informed as they should be.
I did get an I'm sorry maam and was told to enjoy the rest of my evening though. Kudos to their polite attitudes though they are probably repeating themselves over and over.
At least I can find my way to the couch finally! yay gps!!!!
Just powered off then on, had 3G for a few minutes right past midnight, now gone again.
And now it's on again! Wait - off! and I just tried to update the weather app and got:
Unable to Connect
You need a network connection to use this application.
Please turn on mobile network or W-Fi in Settings.
Good grief - and now I'm back to 3G! Can somebody please stop jiggling the plug?!
Verizon seems to have 4G back on-line
i was back up for a while last night. Went away so I restarted. Now this morning, I am at 3g and my husband just texts me and says his is back up....still not stable aparently.
come on verizon!!!
Called Tech Support back and they said that they are still working on it. Whatever the problem it seems like they are tightening the right screws cuz some are back up...
For everyone whose About Phone--->Network says Mobile network type CDMA-EvDo rev. A ...they are still working on things. at least chicago is that way. My husband's TB is in 4G but he's also not checking it almost obsessively.
I am going between 1x, 3G and 4G LTE and nothing at all.
I understand, being irritated and even p'd off is rational, Verizon should have posted somewhere other than twitter about the problem...they were wrong there, but you can't stop mother nature from destroying something. If you are blaming verizon for letting this problem happen, apparently you don't watch the news. I'm sure those folks down in the lower states let those storms rip their homes and lives apart...
Just saying be rational.
4G is back up and running in Atlanta.
3g/4gLTE is up and runnin in phoenix....21.56Mbps download (sorry....couldn't help myself!!!). one day without the great network (and a few other times for a couple of hours) in the many years i've been with them......i'll forgive verizon.
Back to lte in LA.
i just noticed it is back in atlanta as well but a little slow??
Anyone else go into CDMA -EvDo rev.A automatically after 3g came back on? I am not in a 4g area but phone was activated in a 4g area. I did not do the manual "fix" to rev.A. I was in 1x all day yesterday and then this morning have 3g but phone is now set to rev a.
i u right
If you are still only getting a 3G signal I suggest rebooting your phone. After the reboot 4GLTE was working fine. I hope this helps.
OK RobB772. Your post "closed the thread" because service was back on. Really? As I write this reply it is almost a year after your post, April 2nd 2012, and I still endure loss of 4G and 3G service at random intervals. And me and my phone are not traveling...we're just working from home. This last time has been since Sat 31 March 2012. I called Verizon and cancelled my mobile hot-spot, because it does not work without 4G! I asked for a refund for the period I will not have 4G service, and the very nice service rep agreed...to put a note in the file. Then I have to call and ask for the refund for the period outage after they send me the bill. I doubt I'll remember. What I WILL remember is that Verizon over promises and under delivers, and I will start shopping for a new wireless company when my current contract is about up.
