I've been hearing feb 22nd for 2.2 update on fascinate. Any truth to this?
Hi.
Verizon Wireless began pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the Samsung Fascinate on April 21, 2011. Enhancements include support for Adobe Flash Player. You can visit www.verizonwireless.com/fascinatesupport for more information and download instructions for the software update. Customers are able to download the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone.
Thank you,
vzw has not officially said, so you wont get an official answer, other then go to some web page and sign up for email alerts

no, there is no truth to this
The truth is that nobody knows when and if froyo will ever be available. As much as I love my fascinate, I will never again buy one of their phones because of this upgrade debacle....
dunno what you guys are talking about. I already has froyo.
If you love your Fascinate, why wouldn' t you buy another Samsung? I think it is a great phone with 2.1 Eclair and apparently so do you. Whatever you do, don't let a few new features sour you on what you already have.
Don't get me wrong, I want to be able to view Flash and move my apps to the SD card. But those aren't game changers for most of us. Are they for you?

You rooted yours

this is my second sammy phone, first being the omnia
and i dont care how thier support is, the dev community is all the support you need

So did the root canal I just had void my warranty?
Seriously, the latest froyo leak is a VZW version. If you use it how does this void your warranty? You are still using their device, their software, and not rooted.
It isn't their "official" supported software though which is fine for those who don't need their hands held by verizon and are willing to look elsewhere for answers. Granted there's almost always a way to go back to stock so that argument is null. And the thread below may be the start of something big.

Actually, this is my second Samsung, the first being a Rogue which I still have and loved before I decided to upgrade to a smartphone. The Rogue had frequent software updates, and I had no reason not to believe that there would be timely updates with the Fascinate. To answer your question, I have survived quite well without froyo, and I will continue to do the same. It is the principal of the matter. My sisters Motorola Droid 1st gen has Froyo.... something is wrong with this picture.
I am planning to follow an upcoming sports series on my phone (not all the time, but as and when required) and this service requires Flash. I have been patiently waiting for the promised Flash support on my Fascinate (via Froyo or whatever) for about 6 months now and I am getting tired of the wait. I want to do the right thing and let Verizon provide the update.
Why is it such a big challenge for Verizon to provide a mature update is beyond me. If Verizon wants to install bloatware, thats fine (btw, VZW please note: most people DO NOT use your bloatware). But if you have to, atleast dont let it delay software updates to the point of frustating your customers.

Gee I thought all along that these phones did have flash and Iphone and Ipad did not. I can view vids on youtube and the tv staions on the market and vids on facebook so tell me what am I missing here when I thought I had flash?
I don't ever plan on buying another Samsung phone. I shouldn't have to root my phone for it to function as intended (GPS, Lag etc)
Mind you this all started happening after having the phone for six weeks and I am on my third one. May just take it back at this point. You will get Froyo after Samsung releases their new phones with 2.2 on them.
Samsung nor Verizon promised Froyo, only their employees. But they don't represent either company, they just work for them,
ha. So it looks like the developers may get gingerbread on the fascinate before Samsung and Verizon manages to push out froyo. http://http://twitpic.com/40ftdu
Sorry. I'm new to this. What is froyo?
Google names their OS updates alphabetically after a dessert. Currently the Fascinate is running 2.1 (which is eclair). The next update 2.2 is Froyo which everyone has been waiting on since september and most phones already have it. 2.3 is Gingerbread and most likely will be the title of a thread soon with people wondering why they don't have it yet. lol
Foryo is great
The only reason in my opinion that it has not been released is Marketing they have it.
Might mess up all those iphone contracts.
This Phone does flash iphone does not.

I'm tired of waiting for Froyo so I will skip it and Gingerbread and just wait for the 2.4 release of Banana Bread! LMAO
lol. I tried the gingerbread rom last night. Not quite ready for prime time. Then my backup I restored had force closes like crazy so I had to go to my backup backup after going back to stock 3 times. <3 MyBackup Pro
Sounds like someone else should get their facts straight. There was NO class action lawsuit. It was all a farce and the guy made it up. Tmobile only has it available through Kies which is one of the most god awful programs known to man and doesn't work most of the time anyway. AT&T HASN'T made the update available OTA or through Kies either. It briefly popped up on their website but got pulled in a matter of minutes and nothing more has been mentioned about it. If all goes as planned, Sprint will be the first to make it available OTA starting monday.
I think the carriers should just skip FROYO and work on getting out Gingerbread. Why release an OS that already has a replacement in the works?
The news about AT&T Captivate Froyo update was posted on BRG and dozen of other websites.

The class action case against Samsung and T-Mobile wasn't farce. Read more

Should someone continute to have this discussion and contradict my statements, have yours supported as well.

it doesn't work that way. there are still phones out there with 1.6 that will never even get 2.1. the manufacturer decides what the last update will be, not the customers. not sll phones can run all OSs.
The heck with all the bad talk and Froyo I want Banana Bread! LOL
At least one of those developers is working on the Fascinate to get Gingerbread (CM7 base) running.
Did You
{edit for TOS violation}
, or did you go through the "check for new updates" sequence on the phone?
The option to change default search is in the browser but doesn't work. Still defaults to bing regardless of what you have it set as. Also believe the search soft key defaults to Bing unless it's debloated. Couple other nifty things if you haven't noticed, long pressing on the notification bar and dragging left or right changes the screen brightness and you can now take screenshots by holding the back key and pushing the power button (may not work with some apps).

by doing that which we can't talk about.
JBorch8 wrote:I Could really give a rats a$$ if I have a new OS. Aside from the bugs with swype and the occasional lock up, I can live with it. My problem is the fact that we have been pushed around with all of these false claims for 5 months saying froyo is coming soon. You know what Verizon/samsung, just shut up about even having an update, then next year, when froyo has the microscopic chance of coming to the fascinate, it will be surprise and everyone will be happy! Until then, stop with getting every ones hopes up.
You are right JBorch8 they shouldn't mention it until it comes out in a year from now but I think they do because it's a selling point saying will be updated to better OS in a week or two. I would have fallen for it if I knew about the phone and researched it before I got the Fascinate. Now I know when looking for new phone check the forums first then decide.
you all act like samsung is so terrible. htc released the eris ~november 2009, it didn't have 2.1 until may 14th the following year. the fascinate has gotten numerous updates since it was released, and it's still under the 6 month it took htc to release a new os. so, stop complaining.
Well it's official, today AT&T announced the Froyo update for the Captivate will be released tomorrow on their facebook page. Thins came only a few hours after android central mentioned the leaked KB1 update was available. This officially make us the last ones left out in the cold with our Fascinate for the Froyo OTA uodate!

The bickering is ridiculous but comparing the Fascinate to the Droid Eris is like apples to oranges. The Eris was a low end device and certainly not the flagship for HTC like the Galaxy S series is for Samsung. The Eris was launched with 1.5 alongside the Droid (only 2.0 device) on Nov 6, 2009. The 2.1 SDK was released the following January so a ~5month turn around time really isn't that bad. The Froyo SDK was released in May 2010 and the Fascinate was launched Sept 9, 2010. Now we're basically 9 months past when Google actually made Froyo available (~5 months after the Fascinate launch) and Samsung is just now updating its US versions. I think the question should really be what's so different about the US variants that it took this long when some European versions got it as early as last November. The whole point of the Galaxy S was to help rebuild Samsung's image as being notoriously slow to update their software and that certainly didn't happen in the US markets. There is a gleam of hope with the xda-samsung thing so we'll see what the future holds because the Galaxy S II looks like a beast.
in related news the nexus s (a galaxy s device) just got 2.3.3

the difference is the radios, the camera, and possibly every bit besides the processor. the galaxy s only actually dictates the screen and the processor. the cameras have several versions, there are 3g, 4g, cdma, gsm, ect... all these differences add up to a completely different set of coding needed to make the radios play well together and with the OS (as I understand it).
as far as the nexus S, you cannot compare it to the other galaxy s phones, as it doesn't use touchwiz, which needs further coding to get to work.
