I get the same message but only with onw of my contacts that is linked to face book. One her face book page she does not have the dashes in her phone number and i feel that is the reason for the failure because the phone reverts to face book contact info to send and recieve. I hope this gets resoved I am ready to return the phone.
Hi Vorian,
Thanks for the information about the error code while trying to send a text to a AT&T user. In mentioning you were not able to send any text messages without rebooting, were you meaning not being able to send any text messages to the same AT&T user or anyone? If it was to the same AT&T user, please check to see if your calls are going through to the same user and that they can text you back and/or do they have any errors. Please confirm with the AT&T user that they do not have a block from receiving your messages when you attempt to send or if there are any device issues their phone. Also, providing a little more information will help narrow down what is causing the errors so we can recommend more steps or suggestions to resolve the texting issue.
Thank You,
edw@vzwsupport
edit the phone number so that there is no +1 in front. try just 1 or the areacode only.
edit: nvm this did not work for me
I think it has something to do with the snyc'd Facebook contacts asnd with the phone number it uses for authentication when sending a text. When I was talking to a very knowledgable Verizon tech for once, the text never makes it onto the Verizon network. So I've been trying a few things to narrow it down. So far... The VRZN tech had reloaded my texting onto my phone, error came back within two hours. I removed the contact from linking to Facebook, error returned. I completely removed and re-added the contact, still errored. I completely removed Facebook from the phone the app and HTC Sense sync, it removed my facebook phone number from "My contact card" in 'people' haven't encountered the 65535 error yet. I'm going to run it for the day and see what happens then I'll re-add it to see if the error returns and see if I can edit that contact card or just remove my phone number on facebook.
Background info: The error was intermediate and it didn't matter which carrier the recipient was using. The particular contact I tested this with is a Verizon user and someone that I text constantly (the girlfriend haa!) The reason why I was thinking Facebook is because of what the Verizon tech had mentioned with that error being connected to the authentication phonenumber it uses and when I was getting the error over and over with a couple contacts I would text my dad who doesn't have a facebook and the text would go thru. I guess I'll have to see how tomorrow goes.
This is how I started my investigation into the issue. However, last nightt he thunderbolt just started giving me the error on certain people, even though I have NEVER synced facebook since my last reset. I was actually having a text conversation withs someone, and then in the middle of the conversation it stopped sending messages to one specific person.
This is not an isolated issue, and is prevelant in Thunderbolts. I would bring your phone to a Corporate Verizon store and have the techs take a look, perhaps they have seen enough of them by now to give you an informed solution.
i am having the opposite problem. i can send text messages but i am not receiving any back from the person i sent them to. i know this true from one person and she is also a verizon customer. the other person that i have texted and not gotten a reply from, i'm not sure if she got my message to her.
Yep, same problem here. It's been happening for weeks with a couple of different contacts. Didn't seem to matter what type of phone or provider (could be AT&T but not clear on that for sure) I tried everything. Power off, reboot, pull battery, delete contact, edit number removing the +1 etc. I finally did a factory reset and it's working fine now. We will see how long it lasts...

Hi avsnatvsgal! Please do let me know if the factory reset did finally resolve this issue. Thanks!
I had this problem, and now i am having a similar problem only the code is 105 and class 2. Any thoughts? Do another factory reset? That gets kind of old after a while. Does Verizon have this fixed?
I have the same issues. Seems most of the issues is from the facebook HTC or facebook installed on the phones.
When I remove myself from facebookk some of the issues go away but I still have issues with some of my contacts.
Some I can take the failed message and FORWARD it and it sends just fine (and the original and forwarded did NOT have a +1 in front)
I don't get it.
HTC, Don't put out a sync program unless you have tested it better.
The issue is related to the Facebook numbers because the numbers always import wrong.. I posted a solution a time back about this code but don't remember on what post... Disable Facebook contacts from syncing to device and see if this helps..Try Changing Settings / Calls / Home Dialer... This us the setting that controls the +1 extention option..

Sorry I have to rant a bit, but this HTC Thunderbolt is one of the worst phones I have EVER had. For $200 I am sooooooo disappointed and do not recommend this phone to anyone. I have had this phone for about 5 months, and I bite my tongue constantly. It sucks because I am stuck with this junk unless I want to pay full price for another phone.
I too have this SMS message error. It happens with T-Mobile customers, AT&T customers. I have NOTHING special on my phone I don't download a lot of apps, in fact I started just deleting any app I downloaded to see if that would help. I also have the issue that I can send txt messages, but then I don't get the responses from people, and therefore they think I'm ignoring them. I started using Facebook to actually send text messages because the SMS is simply unreliable, especially if people think I am ignoring them!
It all started the first 3 wks I had it my battery life lasted about 3 hrs and I wanted to exchange the phone but by the time I made it to the store I was over the amount of time I had to exchange it. I should have gotten the iPhone. So I have my car charger with me at all times and have it plugged in constantly when at home.
Of course Verizon's customer service could care less. Verizon is the main service that works in my neighborhood so I'm stuck with it and it sucks. I feel so taken advantage of by Verizon Wireless, they could care less about their customers. I spend close to $200/mon and have been a customer for over 10 yrs, but they don't care.
THIS IS THE WORST PHONE EVER!!!!!!
I had the SAME problem. I would try & text a friend and I would get the error 65535 class 3 notification. All the threads I read on here, they all mentioned something about facebook. So I stopped syncing fb to my contacts, deleted the facebook app, deleted the contacts I had problems with, restarted my phone AND THEN re-added the contacts and NOW my messages go through just fine. I don't like that I can't have the facebook app on this phone without me not being able to message some of my contacts. I'm a facebook freak haha. I haven't even had this phone for a full day yet. I had the Htc Inspire from At&t before this Thunderbolt, and everything worked just fine. Verizon or Htc or whoever needs to get this fixed because this isn't cool.
This is a common issue, please check here because this is a FaceBook and has nothing to do with Verizons.. Cant send text Error 65535http://www.droidforums.net/forum/thunderbolt-tech-support/134843-cant-send-text-error-65535-a.html
Emn, I'm sorry to hear that you're having so many issues with your Thunderbolt! First, with this text message error, please make sure the numbers you are sending to do not have a +1 in front of the number. When you select the contact to send a text, it should give you an option of choosing which contact entry you want to text (Google, Facebook, Phone, etc). Make sure you are selecting the correct number. There is also a new software that will push to your device soon that may help with the SMS issue.
The battery should last more than 3 hours. Do you turn off Bluetooth & WiFi when not using them? If you have any type of antivirus or task killer programs you should uninstall those because they continue to run in the background and cause battery drain. Also, try some of these battery saving tips. You can also try an extended battery which will significantly increase the battery life. We also have a promotion right now where 4G extended batteries are half off! The price will be discounted to $24.99 once added to the cart.
