Sync with Mac programs?

My wife is contemplating her first smart phone.  I have the Incredible and like it a lot.  Her question is, how easy is it to sync an Incredible with Mail and Address Book on her Mac desktop.  In other words, she wants to not have to switch to Gmail because it would be a new system to learn, etc.

The phone will not support the sync directly out of the box; however, you may be able to find a third party application in the Market that will allow you to do this.
