I know that there is not a new software update yet, but when I go to check new, I get an error. It tells me service unavailable. Before the outage it would tell me no new updates. Anyone else having this issue? I am getting 4G.
hmmm whats this???

Might just be a temporaty glitch. I just checked mine and I don't get an error when checking.
I am getting the same SERVICE UNAVAILABLE error.
Working now. Must just be a temporary thing.
Same error here, even when I have good signal. It seems that the thunderbolt has a lot of data issuer it could just be me. Sometimes when I go to the market or browse the internet I always get the message 'Network Error has occurred'
Doesn't matter if it works or not.... I got this from HTC this morning

"Unfortunately Gary, we are still investigating the issues that have been reported with the HTC Thunderbolt and we do not have an ETA on a fix or update to resolve these issues. Once we have developed an update or fix for these issues. It will be announced on our website. I recommend that you continue to check our website for any updates or fixes for your HTC Thunderbolt".
WEAK....
Some forums have said that a leaked version of this is out there but people still are not very happy... Apperently random restarts are one of the most noticeable issues. Remembering back to Droid X days it would reboot when it started getting slow. I wounder if they added this to the T-Bolt to force a reboot instead of wait for the user to do it???

When Droid X would start running slow and required a reboot toresolve was related to low system memory... This could be the same but when memory gets to low the device will automatically freeze and reboot to recover from the issue, this sound more like the possible reason for a reboot when a device starts lagging and freezing.
yeah, it's not really a "huge" improvement over the release firmware. The random reboots seem to be an issue in poor service areas from my experience. My parents live just outside of the extended LTE area for Wilmington and the 3G service is flaky. About once a day for the 3 days I was there, I'd get a random reboot but haven't had any outside of that area.
I would suggest to do a battery pull for sure. Leave it out for a good 5 minutes or so. You can also remove and re-insert you SIM card in the back of the phone.
Let us know if the suggestion worked.
Tried the battery pull, still getting the same error. Been trying all day now.

The note on this posting says that it's been solved and provides a link to the "solution". I clicked the link, yet I still don't see a solution. I have the same problem....
Home / Settings / Software update / Check new......
"Error SERVICE UNAVAILABLE"
Does this mean that the OTA update has not been pushed to my Thunderbolt yet or does it mean that the update service is not working and I will not receive the update?
My phone was working fine before the outage last week on "America's most reliable network".
Tossed my 3rd iPhone and left AT&T on 4/8/2011. Been a Verizon customer for almost a month.
It is a small garbage update that isn't going to help with anything.. it doesn't really matter
Hopefully they fix the modem/processor problem soon

The solution goes to a pdf file link with the description of what the update includes.
Usually updates once they are available will take a couple of weeks to be applied to all the phones. I have checked my phone for the update and sometimes I will get the service unavailable or the notice that the phone is up to date. Eventually you will see the update notification. If you haven't gotten it in the next few weeks. Please post back here.
I told them that I didn't think they it was fair that I had to pay for a data package that was half a$$ working, and that they shouldn't have released a 4g phone before they had a reliable network to operate it on. I was pretty **bleep** because my 14 day trial ended during the nationwide 4g outage last weekend. I assumed the outage was because of the tornados we had here in the South, and that would have been understandable. But it was strange that my wifes incredible only lost 3g for a few hours, and My Wunderbolt was down for 4 days. So now I'm stuck with Verizion and this piece of crap phone for 2 more years.
Is anyone able to get the update in Arizona? I am still getting service not available. I have been reading all over the web that they pushed the update, but I have yet to be able to get it.
Im in Phoenix and all i ever get when i check is SERVICE UNAVAILABLE. When I called Support they had no clue what to do.
