Droid X, Camera issues, blurry photos

I am finding out this is an issue but wondering what suggestions you have. I have tried to make photos clear but especially when making one into wallpaper it is stretched and blurry. My Storm camera was better so far. Otherwise I love the Droid. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks. :smileytongue:

Sorry I can't help you. The Droid X has the worse camera of any cell phone I have owned. I downloaded a couple of phone apps that work much better. Pictures are especially bad if you need to use the flash.

Truthfully, the most common reason any cell phone image is blurry is because of the lens cover being smudged with fingerprints. Can't understand for the life of me why phone manufacturers cannot make a simple sliding door to protect the lens.

Anyway, clean off your lens and try to be in as much light as possible. I get great pics from my X when in decent lighting. But low light situations on just about any phone camera will cause bad pics.

Aside from possible dirt on the lens, the other huge cause of blurry pics with this phone is camera shake. Yes, low-light situations are also a big problem and the flash only seems to work within close range in dark situations. To get around the possibility of camera shake, you need a setting called "Steady Shot" enabled that won't take the picture until the camera is totally still. I purchased Vignette as my default camera app. Along with a LOT of other nice features, it includes this feature unlike the stock camera APP. (You can try the free version to see if it meets your expectations.)

All that said, I didn't buy this phone to be a DSLR camera - and frankly my older LG DARE seemed (SEEMED) to take better pictures and was lower resolution. In sunny conditions, the DX takes really nice pictures outdoors. But low-light sort of sucks most of the time. Good luck.

But even if I download a picture....from a source that says they can be used for wallpapers.....the droid blows them up or blurrs them out totally. It forces a crop that is unable to be used as a picture for wallpaper.

The problem with using pictures as Wallpapers on the DX is all about the actual size and resolution of the original picture. You can't just copy any old pic to your phone and use it as a wallpaper -- it must have been resized to conform to specific size. (The size escapes me right now -- I'll scan some forums to see if I can find it.) On the other hand, if you simply copy picturss to the phone to display in the Gallery, they SHOULD display just fine.

Agreed. Camera stinks. Not only are pictures blurry, the camera app closes if you aren't perfectly still when preparing to snap.

Would you mind sharing the names of some of the apps that make the camera work better? Yeah...the stock camera could be better. In fact, I took some pictures this evening at a company event. The pics on the beach (before the sun went down) were excellent. However, the ones inside the restaurant were dark and a bit blurred, even set on "Night Portrait".

As I'm typing this, I seem to remember a posting on here about the various camera settings (Exposure, ISO, etc.). I'll try to find it.

This may sound kind of a given but I have learned this gets overlooked...

1. Do you press button and allow camera to focus on subject before taking photo?

2. Are you making sure to take in correct Scene settings?

3. Have you configured the ISO for low light situations?

I wont say the camera is the best but I have used it for graduations and family reunion and was able to print photos with very nice quality and I also play slide shows of photos on 50 inch TV without complants.

You can look at Camera 360 and Viignette, they have done well in the past but in my opinion I perfer the stock app since the 2.2 update, I paid for both of these apps and neither is being used any more.
