Droid Died After Phone Call

I've been a little scared as how the screen turns off during a phone call. Reading on these forums I see that its natural via a sensor. Well, now its turned off completely during a call, I do not know if the phone call is still being timed and the screen pulses with a dim light like its trying to do something but, will neither turn on nor off? It was fully charged this morning? Help! I was afraid this was going to happen!? Is my droid dead??

Simple and worlds most low tech solution, I pulled the battery out and put it back in. It sure makes you look like a tech-savy stud in the office. "Watch me pull the battery out of my phone! Now I put it back in and voila!"

I pray this problem does not pursist.

Happened to me as well tonight. I was on a call and the phone went totally dead. It froze up and I had to pull out the battery to get it to reset. I am sad about this issue. First smart phone and it is not a good feeling.

I too have this problem. It appears to only happen when I've been on the phone for a lengthy period of time. Its almost like the "sensor" doesnt work to display the screen again after a call. The power button does nothing and neither of the four areas at the bottom of the screen (whatever they are called, buttons or what) will do anything. I have to pull my battery out and put it back in to get my display back. This is crazy, doesnt happen every time, only certain instances. I am hoping this is addressed in the Dec. 11 OTA update that we are supposed to get. We'll see!

Wow this really sucks Motorola! I love my Droid but mine died too. Only after reading these threads did I learn about removing and replacing the battery. It worked (for now) but this is going to be a huge problem for Motorola to fix and I expect warranty repair. I payed good money for this phone, not to mention the monthly service plan. I hope you will do the right thing and get this problem fixed and then I want a NEW working phone.

It's 12/07/09. I have had my phone running no problems since 11/27/09. Wow that's less than 2 weeks.

I just went to pick it up off my desk and it was dead, dead, dead, :smileysad:

I can tell you the last adjustment I made was to leave the screen brightness on bright. I had turned the Automatic Brightness OFF. So maybe there's a clue. The battery had a full charge and the Screen timeout was set to 10 minutes.

Actually that's not all true. The last significant adjustment I did was to turn the phone to Airport mode and then connect to a wifi connection for my first time. All worked like a champ until it died.

1 week to dead is not acceptable. Please let me know when you get the phones fixed and when I can exchange my defective phone for a new one.

I could not take it anymore, I exchanged my Droid this morning for another one. The new Droid does not lock up on me like the original one did. The proximity sensor still turns the display off when I put the phone to my face, as it should. When I pull the phone away from my face, the screen is still off, however by pressing the lock/power button, the display comes back on. On my first Droid this was not the case, the lock/power button does nothing. Must be a bad sensor. Personally in my opinion you should not have to press anything when you pull the phone away from your face. What it appears happens is that the screen timeout kicks in while on call. I would've thought that the screen timeout would not activate while in a call since the device has a proximity sensor.
