Crapware

I am not interested in Blockbuster, Bitbop, Lets Golf 2, or Rockband. I will not be using those services and there is no reason to have them on the phone. Apparently Verizon has decided that I'm not allowed to delete applications that I will never use from my own phone.

Why?

Verizon, please fix this.

Uninstall blockbuster is not highlighted as an option like on the other apps (Facebook)

This isn't anything new. Same thing with every other Android phone. They all CAN be removed but it requires a little more work than just hitting uninstall which we can't talk about here.

google shows no way to do it without voiding the warranty, so there are no alternative methods of doing it without voiding warranty. Google is not a friend right now for not showing how to do it that way

I don't think you should have to "root" your phone to get rid of things you don't want or need :smileymad: I paid full price for my Thunderbolt and got no subsity so why can't I control what I put on or remove from MY phone :smileysad: Think I'll contact HTC and ask wether rooting will void my warranty, or effect OTA updates

That means if the push fixes for the sense weather city being waaay wrong (mine shows Northwest Comanche OK and I'm in Rochester NY) ; any battery life fixes, the .9 SW version , LTE ( I live in one of the 38 first cities and don't always get 4G) and any other goodies I might be [Edited to comply with Terms of Service]? I reiterate I paid full price I should be able to Remove Bloatware that has nothing to do with Verizon's network!!!

yeah, it'll get mad if the bloat apps aren't where it thinks they should be and the update would fail. That's why the image above shows them all in a "bloat" folder on the sdcard. :smileywink: Granted I have no problems with OTA updates being blocked. :smileyhappy:

It CAN'T be discussed on this community per the Terms of Service. You will have to Google search if you want the answers to go down that route. Fair warning, "IT" voids your phone warranty!

I can understand Verizon not allowing Customers to do things to, or with, their devices that effect the network but I see nothing germane to the operation of the Thunderbolt's operation with removal of Let's Golf, Blockbuster, Kindle, VZ Navigator, and other "Useless" apps. I and others in my situation, those who paid FULL RETAIL PRICE for our device, should be able to walk in to a Verizon Tech center and have them remove any unwanted/non-germane apps which require permissions without our warranty being jeopardized

Well if you can get them to change a policy that has been in effect for more than a year (or more), good for you.

There is bloatware on my HTC DROID Eris and the HTC Aria (another carrier). While I would rather the bloatware be gone too, I avoid them by scrolling right past them in the app drawer. They don't run in the background because I never opened them. In a change of UI on the DROID Eris in favor of Launcher Pro, I now have them hidden from the app drawer so I never see them.

yeah but where's the fun in that? lol. I probably wouldn't actually remove anything if it were that easy. Wonder what full retail would be if they didn't have all that bloat on there.

Well I have a reply from HTC verifying that it is Verizon that requested the bloatware be installed on our device.

"I know it's important to be able to customize your device, as well as use the GPS accurately on your new HTC Thunderbolt. There is not a way to remove preinstalled applications from the software at this time. I know that this is a limitation, and I understand wanting to have that option. However, they are included at the request of the carrier."

I've also highlighted a glimmer of hope that this may be temporary :smileysurprised: By having these unneeded programs residing in the device internal memory they (Verizon) are cheating us out of that memory usage to install apps we decide we want to use. This contributes to the user available space in the 8GB internal being only 2.5+GB.

I also let them know I wasn't happy with my phone thinking it was in Northwest Comanche OK when it actually is in Rochester NY.
