Can you text to canada free?

I got friends up in canada whom I'd like to text, but I don't know if it's free or not? Does this count as international texting? I have a unlimited texting plan.

While traveling in the U.S.,Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico text messages sent to non-U.S. phone numbers of participating carriers will not be applied against any monthly text messaging allowance and are charged the following:

$0.25/address sent
$0.20/message received

Text messages sent to phone numbers in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico are charged domestic rates per your plan.

Just FYI - my daughter texts to friends in Canada (306) area code and it shows on our usage as Domestic text - no additional charges.

umm how do you know if it shows as a domestic text? if it shows up in your text usage?

In the text message detail there are not any add'l charges associated with the text would be my guess.
