Samsung Fascinate force closes apps that try to access camera

Hi all, I have a Fascinate, and - regardless of the app - when I attempt to use an augmented reality app ( such as droid shooter or car finder) the apps force close.

This is my THIRD fascinate, as my original wouldn't update to 2.2, and the 1st replacement (certified new) was received with major scratches all over the screen.

Anyone else having this issue, or know how to fix it? I've tried both "soft" and factory resets - neither fixes the problem

I am sorry to learn of the Force Close issues you are experiencing with your DROID. I am a bit confused by the contradictions in your two posts. In the title of this forum, you state that the Force Close is happening with apps that access the camera. I have reviewed the comments and reviews for both Car Finder and DROID Shooting, and found no reports of Force Close for Car Finder; however, DROID Shooter had reports of Force Closing on some handsets (Fascinate not listed). This does not appear to be a network or equipment issue, but problems with the apps themselves. We recommend searching again in the Market for these applications, and contact the corresponding developer. As I mentioned, there have not been widespread reports of Force Closing on the Fascinate.

Hey roy, I've tried EVERY app that accesses my camera, and - other than vignette, they ALL fc. O gave two examples. Even apps that were designed for the fascinate fc on camera access. So, it DOES seem to be an issue with my "certified new" handset (which was also received with minor scratches and what seemed to be a glob of glue on the screen.

I've had enough with you vzw reps getting on here and suggesting that either myself our l or the developers are the only ones capable of making mistakes - when I know that vzw has made more than their fair share

I'm sorry an0dyne, I didn't mean to insinuate we do not make mistakes. I was simply explaining that from what you were explaining, it appeared to be an issue with the applications.

Can I ask, are you putting the same Augmented Reality (AR) applications on each of the replacement phones? If so, do you notice it happening when you install a specific application, or does it happen with only one specific application? What we recommend is to replace your phone once again, and first ensuring that it works properly without adding any of the AR apps. Once that is confirmed, we'd like to add AR apps back to the phone one at a time, waiting a few days between them to see if or when the problem returns. There is something in at least one of the applications that is affecting the camera as a whole, which is why it will then not work with any AR application.

The other option you have is to delete all of your AR apps from this phone and re-add them one-by-one; however, if one of the applications has already compromised the camera, you will notice the problem on the phone again, regardless of what you have downloaded. It is better to start with a known working device, and then add the apps until the problem reproduces itself.

I have also taken the liberty of contacting Samsung directly, and explained the issues and the replacement devices you have had, and the best answer they could provide is that these applications are not compatible with the phone. They too explained that it would be an issue with the application until I explained that it was more than one app, at which time the rep advised me that they don't support third-party applications and if the phone is Force Closing all of the AR apps, they are not compatible with the phone.

I still suggest the steps I have outlined above as troubleshooting to try and narrow down the cause of the problem; however, if you also wish to contact Samsung, you can do so by calling 1-888/987-4357 or clicking on this link.
