Battery not charging when connected to PC.

I have had my Thunderbolt for a couple of weeks now, but recently noticed that the battery is not charging or is very slow to charge when connected to my office PC. It all so seams that the battery heats up more when connected to the PC for charging as compared to a wall/car charger.  Any suggestions on the cause of this?

Charging over a usb connection will always be slower than charging via a wall plug (even though you would think running through the exact same cable would be the same result).

 

That's because USB ports don't run as much "juice" through themselves like a wall charger or car charger will.

 

Are you using your phone while it is plugged in?

 

Heat generated by a battery has to do with how a battery is charging and discharging.  It is usually more noticable when you are using a phone while it is being charged.

 

You may notice it being hotter while charging via usb and using the phone because of the way the battery is using up the stored energy and trying to replace it.   When the source cannot replace the energy being used fast enough, it will generate more resistance (heat).

 

Even when your not using the phone, because the phone is still drawing current, you may notice it being warmer when charging via usb than by wall charger, because it is still not replacing what it is using as fast.

 

One other thing...you may have a bad battery as well.
