droid x started rebooting, and will not stop

Sometime this afternoon my droid x started to reboot itself. I has been doing this non stop for a while. I pulled the battery a few times and tried several restart technicques (safe boot., select normal rebook from menu and apply the update.zip file that one failed with a file not found).

I can not get it to stop and go back to being functional. Was there any OTA updates that went out today?

Other than a factory reset what else can I do to stop this mess.

Yanked out the sd card. Didnt make any difference.

It almost acts like it is trying to run some update, as it now it hangs up on the main menu, and is unresponsive.

I'm afraid that you might have to do a factory reset. However, there is one question I shall ask before you do that. Did you install any new apps prior to this happening? If so, try uninstalling that apps and see what happens. If not, than you could try the factory reset.

Thanks, that is a decent suggestion, and I do install or upgrades stuff.

A few days ago I install something that tracks your mobile net usage minutes. Was also having issues with upgrading some simple apps, like angry birds.The reboot thing and other issues are at least 3 days apart in time.

Did a hard reset, still do the reboot thing.

Going to find a different SD card and see if that has something to do with it.

Planning a visit to Big Red this morning. That insurance better be worth something as the phone is a little over 2 months old.

My update.

Visited Big Red Corp store. After some work the tech thinks it is related ot the SD card. Even though I can access the SD card on my PC they could not access it even when using their phone.

Since it is under warrenty they are shipping me a replacement phone, minus the SD card. I hope it is a new one, and not refurbished phone. Not sure what to db about the SD card. Any suggestions ?

So they trouble-shoot it down to the SD card, but they are replacing the phone. That's my kind of trouble-shooting, no doubt... :smileysurprised:

I would be hesitant to use that SD card in the new phone, considering what you know now. I could be wrong, but I'd use another card. Did you or they try your phone with another SD card?

And don't get yer hopes up about getting a new phone. Having said that, I've gotten a couple of insurance refurbs (not Droid Xs, but nonetheless...) and I LOOKED for signs of use and I could find NONE. The refurbs look and operate just like brand new. So I wouldn't worry about that, past the stigma of getting a "used" phone".

Why is it that Verizon will not replace SD cards for the purpose of troubleshooting?

Veering off on a tangent and becoming very paranoid and proposing the anti-android conspiracy, how is this for a rebooting theory?

Considering last weeks droiddream malware attack and a new (different one) reported today, why has no one suggested the possibility that malicious apps were released that cause problems, like rebooting, on android phones? Apps that even after removal have already infiltrated the phone and perhaps in a way that isn't detectable the way most viruses are?

On the SD card, that's a good question, since it would seem a more fitting move to act on the SD card. That's kinda like me trouble-shooting a $30,000 audio mixing console because the customer complained of a crackling microphone cable and replacing the console instead of trying another mic cable.

WIldman might be able to shed some light on the possibility of the virus invading the firmware or maybe the phone's hardware in some way? (not putting him on the spot or anything... :smileywink:

Geri you think if they would've just tried another SD card an it would'nt even had to be a 16 gig they could've pute a 2 gig or 8 gig to seen if fixed the issue. before sending him out a new phone but if the phone is the problem it's good he's getting a replacement. but if that been me they would've pute a different SD card in mine to see if it fixed the issue. i had to many issues with refurbs in the past i had gotten a new moto v3m an the key board was messed up so they sent me a refurb got it an the display on it was screwed up on it so i took it back an I had a little talk with manager an finally i left the store with another new unit that i had for a few years an i never had a issue with it . An its still working but with my little grand Neice an she loves it. :smileyvery-happy:

The reported exploit that was found in the Market was directed to 2.1 and even that exploit had to run a root access command in order to infect the device, so at this time if the device hasnt been rooted and the unit is running 2.2 or higher the method that is being used to infect the devices can not work...

I think the lockup and rebooting can be software related but more from incorrect coding, this is the one thing about open source that just because a user can write a program does not mean that they can do it well.. Software debugging is there for a reason, developers and software are never guarenteed to be perfect all the time.

That's like throwing out the baby and keeping the bath water. Geee! Did they even try to put in a new SD card to see if your problems were related to that? As for getting a new phone, I strongly doubt it.
