New software update means I cant use Get It Now anymore!

Help! Verizon updated their software and now Get It Now does not work on my phone anymore! This really sucks. I have a brand new G'zOne phone that I had been saving (never had it activated) until my old phone went out. Well when I go to activate it, it activates OK but Get It Now or My Media does not work. I called Verizon and they said that this was due to a new software update for all of the apps. I feel that this is just Verizons way of forcing us to buy new phones from them, as this just pretty much means that any phone that you buy off of E-bay, Overstock, etc. is not going to work to its full capacity. Oh sure you will be able to make and receive calls but that is it. No VZ Navigator, Backup Assistant, etc. Verizon really sucks for this!

Thank you for your feedback. In reviewing your post, you mentioned you had a G'zOne phone but was not specific on which type as there are several available. We do support G'zOne but depending on the specific one you have, there have been software updates from previous to newer models to improve service. We do support the devices as long as your phone is under warranty and/or it was purchased from Verizon Wireless or authorized agent. We do encourage our customers to obtain the newer devices because of service improvements made by their manufacturers. If you need more information on phones that are VZ Media Center capable, please use this link below as a sample reference. Also, the Casio G'zOne Brigade C741 is Back Up Assistant and VZ Navigator capable in case this was the specific G'zOne phone you discussing but not mentioned in your post.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Verizon supports all their devices, any phone you can buy off ebay is prob in service today by a paying customer..

Maybe the GIN is down or having problems.. Did you try a master reset on your device

Is your phone software update to date?

When you load up media center what happens? Do you have any data blocks?

Phone doesn't matter so much as whether it was active between 12/25/2010 and 3/25/2011. I have the same thing with a freshly refurbished Motorola RAZR V3m. Last week it activated fine, but I couldn't load Backup Assistant because of the Get-It-Now (or Media Center) connection errors ("Can't retrieve catalogue..."). The GIN code update would have been received automatically if the phone had been up during that December-to-March window. But now is too late, and two techs at VZW (second-level) and one at the local Verizon store confirmed that Verizon by policy refuses to go backward and catch up that microcode update on phones recently turned back on after the wrong period of inactivity.

I'm holding out another week while I look for someone who might be able to hack the phone to make the necessary update, but I'm not optimistic. Then I'll return the phone to the refurbisher/reseller that I've been using for a couple of years. Too bad; they've been great for me. Their business is gonna hurt for awhile while they get past this 'gap', and they make it sound like they're stuck with some degraded-feature phones.

Verizon has said ( and even restated in these forums) that I should just update my phones (5 x family plan), committing to a new 2-year plan for each. That's what I'm looking in to, with AT&T. My daughter is going to mover her line to AT&T, while the rest of us watch to make sure we don't have 'dead-zone' or any other issues.

I have a Casio Type-S which was active during the update period and is still active and it was not updated automatically. Went to the Verizon store to get this corrected, (there is supposed to be fix according to VZW) and they were sort of not sure what I was talking about but would try to flash my phone after speaking with a manager. Well, their computer recognized my phone but it wouldn't communicate with it. The reps helping me were not techs. I'm very disappointed. This is the 3rd experience at one of their stores and all I get is a "oh well, I can't help you, sorry about" response. I feel like I am getting the run around just to force me into purchasing a newer phone.

I am going to every forum I can to update it with the instructions for the path. Here's my response in a few other forums requesting the path. We don't normally do this, but given the circumstances, it is necessary. My response:

I’m very sorry if some stores were unable to help with restoring the Get It Now access. This is a very new process, and hasn’t been done before. That being said, there is a specific file path to instructions on how to do this. I cannot post the steps themselves because they are confidential, but I can describe how to view them. Make sure this is being done by a technician in the store or someone who is able to flash phones. This must be done in a Corporate Store.

Here’s the file path:

Infomanager> Products/Svcs> Get It Now>MediaCenter(Formerly Get It Now)> In the processes section click “Restoring Access to the Media Store.” Once here, under option 3, choose Instructions for Recovery. This will open up a PDF file with screenshots and instructions.

Additional path: Type “Restoring Access to the Media Store” in the Infomanager search box. It’s the first article result. Once here, under option 3, choose Instructions for Recovery. This will open up a PDF file with screenshots and instructions.

Note: In the Restoring Access to the Media Store article there is a hyperlink (like a hyperlink to the instructions) at the top that says "certain Brew devices" that will show the list of devices that this will work on.
